Chapter 54
At Claire’s request, the lycan king nodded his head, as if assimilating the wisdom in her statement. I almost scoffed but for the love for my life.
That I was fucking Adam did not mean I could go around behaving like a member of his family.
From the lycan’s attitude since he saw me at the party, I was sure that I wouldn’t be welcomed if Adam should officially introduce me to them as his mate.
I don’t blame the king though. I had no wolf, and I was an omega. I wasn’t even from the pack, so my parents and origin were unknown.
Thinking of it now, I am not sure that it had been his idea to throw this party-perhaps the idea had popped out from the council of elders, most likely spearheaded by Naomi’s father.
“Claire just gave a brilliant suggestion. Maya, and Naomi of course, find the little girl who you claim had told you to leave the party hall, and maybe, just maybe we might put your account into consideration.” The lycan king mentioned, gesturing at me with his head to commence with the search.
When I received the king’s approval to search for the girl, I sighed, in relief.
My eyes coincided to search around for the girl, but with every passing minute where I saw no girl of that stature or size, my hope and relief weakened.
I could see the same worry and anxiousness on Naomi’s face. She had joined me in the searching process, even going as far as paving ways in the multitude of people that had come for my send off.
I noticed that Adam was darting glances between I and Naomi, the hope in his eyes dwindling when out quest for the unknown girl seem to be of no use. She was no where to be found.
How was that possible? How could a girl not more than twelve years old disappear from the party, without any parent or guardian?
“Did you know which family she belonged to?” That was Adam. He had stepped closer to me, his beautiful eyes boring down on mine like I was the only one of importance to him, not minding the glare that his father was throwing at his back.
“No, I don’t know.” I answered, my eyes returning to Claire who was wearing a victorious smirk on her lips.
She was looking so sure that we won’t find the girl. Why?
Had she hidden the girl somewhere? I thought, staring at her, my mind reeling with a thought at great speed when our eyes met.
Those eyes.
My right foot started tapping on the floor frantically. It usually happens whenever my mind was on the brink of discovering something.
Claire still held my gaze, and I wondered what it was my brain was trying to remember, to bring out.
My foot stopped tapping immediately, when the girl’s face flashed through my memory again.
Her eyes.
Those eyes of hers had been peculiar, similar to Claire’s. No wonder I had been so fixated on her eyes. The both seemed familiar, actually the same, but how was that possible?
Claire’s eyes, which were a mixture of blue and purple with dark purple dots or rather rings coating the pupil was unique and very rare, a feature that had added to her mysteriousness and had made her an item of interest in the pack and beyonds. No one else had that same eyes, at least not in our pack.
But the little girl, if I could remember clearly, had the same, yes, the same purple ring.
How was that possible?
Even Claire’s family members did not have that feature in their eyes, making me wonder where Claire had gotten hers from. Her father saw it as a gift from heaven. I usually thought that she was a gift from another man to her mother.
But back to the girl. They were alike, similar, like sisters. But Claire was the only girl child in the family, so that was also out of the equation.
So, who could the girl be? What could this mean? Why do they look so much alike? And why does Claire seem so sure that we wouldn’t find the girl? I thought, biting my lips unconsciously, brought to the present when Adam tapped me by the arm.
I noticed that Naomi was close now, just beside Adam. She must have given up.
“Did you find her?” I asked her, but she shook her head sadly.
I returned my gaze to Claire again. She was still smirking. Her minions were on the happy side too.
“Did you find the said girl?” I heard the lycan king ask both I and Naomi, but silence greeted him. As if on cue, I and Naomi hadn’t given a word of reply.
My mind rather feasted on the fact that the king had sounded mocking and gloat-full. He must be happy about this.
But why? I was leaving the pack after all. Why join the girl in humiliating me? Was it because of the relationship I shared with Adam?
“I asked a question, or didn’t I?” The King asked, stepping closer to us.
Quickly, Naomi gave an answer. I think she is more afraid of the king than I am, or was I just dumb?
“No, we didn’t find her. She must have left the party.” she said.
“A little girl leaving the party? How is that possible? According to your description, she wouldn’t be more than twelve.” That was Claire’s mother. Her mate supported the statement with the nodding of his bald head.
“That’s so true. Then, it is possible that you both have lied to cover up the truth.” Mr Brekan said, unmoved as and I and Naomi shook our heads, refusing to be pushed under the bus for a crime we didn’t commit. Read full story at
“They are not lying. And as I said before, Maya hasn’t been here before. So, there is no way she would know the house or the identity of the necklace. There must be a misunderstanding somewhere.” Adam mentioned calmly, although the steely resolution in his voice was still there.
It gave me hope that I wouldn’t be killed.
