Chapter 55
At Adam’s statement, there was silence in the hall.
I looked at the lycan king. He was brooding, like really brooding, almost sulking on the fact that his son was not on his side.
He sighed, and looked at his beta, who shook his head, before returning to and glaring at me. I looked away from his hostile face.
“My daughter can not lie. She wouldn’t say what she didn’t see.” He said, reaffirming what he had mentioned earlier.
There was murmuring in the crowd too. A lot of people were saying a lot of things, and with my enhanced hearing, I could hear a lot of what they were saying. Some between two people. Some between three. Snippets actually.
’Do you think that Naomi and Maya stole the relic p>
’No, I don’t think so. Especially Maya. The girl is too dumb to do the stealing p>
’The girl is smarter than she looks p>
’She is also a thief p>
’I think Claire planned this one p>
’Does Claire hate her that much p>
’Well, she deserve it for touching Claire’s boyfriend p>
’If I was Claire, I would make sure her head is cut off and hanged on a gallow. The effrontery to flirt with Adam in the party right in front of her p>
’I heard they went to his room to have bouts of sex. My brother, who is one of the guards assigned to Adam, had told me that they were having sex. She is sexy though. I got wet thinking about it p>
’Really? I can’t wait to have a taste of her. Too bad she is leaving soon p>
’I think we still can. We can follow her after she has left, or wait until she’s back. That is if we don’t find our mate before then p>
“What do you think the lycan king would do p>
’I am not sure yet. He seems confused, at a crossroads. On one hand, his son is an ardent supporter of the dumbo. On the other hand, his favorite girl is on the opposing side. I am curious to see what happens next.’ Check latest chapters at ⓝovelFind.net
I took off my ears then, after hearing the last statement. I was curious too. On what would happen? What would the lycan king do? Would he choose Claire over his son? I hope he does not.
My hope was anchoring on the fact that the bond he shared with his son was stronger than the one that he shared with his beta and the latter’s daughter.
“Well The King cracked his throat, his eyes surveying the crowd before landing on me, the hard glint was still here.
He was regretting throwing the party. I could literally read it off the hostile expression on his face when our eyes met.
I quickly removed my gaze, deciding to rest it on Adam’s neck. He was tense, though that not obvious to the others.
“There are two opposing sides, which I can’t discount. Investigations would be conducted on this theft, but before then Maya Holins would be taken to the confinement room for now. She would stay there until further notice. If she is found guilty, she will bear the necessary punishment, but if not, she will be set free, and be allowed to leave the pack as scheduled. Guards, lead her to the confinement room.” He commanded, and immediately my eyes widened, going tro and fro the room from my mother to Naomi to Adam who placed his arm on my shoulder to the guards who were approaching me now.
My heart beat spiked up. The confinement room? What was that? Is it like a prison? What about Naomi? Would she be with me?
“Calm down Maya. The confinement room is not the dungeon. It is just..” Adam was looking for the appropriate word to use so as not to frighten me.
“It’s like a holding cell.” Naomi completed. “There is a good bed, and good food is served twice a day. There is even a complete bath set with a toilet. Don’t worry. You will be out before you know it.” She said, before hugging me to herself, lightly pushing Adam out of the way.
My mother walked up to me then. I had seen her from behind Naomi. Her arms were wide open, out for a hug.
Immediately, I disengaged from the hug with Naomi, walked to her, and hugged her, inhaling her beautiful scent.
“I didn’t do it, mum. I am innocent.” I said, and she nodded her head slightly on my shoulder.
“I know, my dear. I trust you. I didn’t raise a thief.” she agreed, disengaging from me when the guards cleared their throats.
I turned to Adam after I was freeed from my mother’s hug; expecting his too.
“I will be there soon. I need to talk with my father.” he said, before dropping a kiss on my lips amidst the stares and murmurs, before walking toward the direction his parents had taken to leave the hall. The king had left immediately after pronuncing judgment on me.
The guards wanted to jerk me by the shoulder, but a voice stopped them short.
“Don’t hold her that way. I think she can walk by herself. Right Maya p>
That was Noah.
This had to be recorded in the book of records. First time Noah Brekan was standing up for me.
Beside him was Daniel who had some kind of mixed emotions in his eyes. What was he thinking?
The guards nodded, then bowed, before gesturing with their hands that I start walking in the direction of the confinement room.
I mouthed a thank you to Noah, who nodded, watching as I and the guards strolled out of the hall toward the western exit.
On that path, I saw my father, foster father now I know of the truth, with my two siblings. They just stood there staring, although I could see the smirk on Lilian’s lips.
She must be happy about this newest development. Why won’t she?
Just like Claire, I was sure that she was envious that I and Adam are a thing, and not her. After all, she had had a crush on Adam since forever.
She even had his pictures all over the wall of her room. She was that obsessed.
Too bad I hadn’t gotten the chance to gloat over her. Or would I?
