Chapter 72

Peter was right. Laura’s mac was the most delicious I have ever tasted. Good thing I hadn’t taken the tempting bet. I had thought I had eaten enough tasty foods to know, but this Mac was the best of them all.

Damn! What the hell has she used to prepare it? I thought, as I scooped the last serving on my plate, my heart and belly already desiring for more.

With the tail of my left eye, I checked to see how the people around the table were faring, and found out that they were still eating gently, in little amounts.

Interesting. Am I the only one with over sensitive taste buds?

Well, they must be used to eating such a rich dish. I have to admit that Laura beat my mother hands down in mac preparation. I love my mother’s food of course, but this one in particular, I have to admit, was more delicious than hers.

I thought of asking for more, but shyness wouldn’t let me. Fortunately, Diana must have seen the want and greed painted on my face.

“You want more, Maya?” she asked me, and for a minute I was glad that she had read my mind, or my face, whichever one it was.

At her question, Laura and Peter looked up from their plates and stared at me. For original chapters go to.net

There was a notable smirk playing on Peter’s lips that almost had me groaning and giving him the victory shrug which I knew he was already stewing in.

I bit my lips under their gazes, and looked at the window, not ready to agree to my want of Laura’s mac.

I heard a chuckle, most likely from Peter. Yes, it was surely from him. He must have gotten tired of holding the laughter in.

“Dad, why are you laughing?” I heard Diana ask him, and smirked this time around, noting the confusion and indecision on his face, probably at loss at whether he should tell his daughter that he was happy that I was eager for more mac, or that he was right in his statements earlier.

In the end, Laura saved him as a good wife that she was. “Let it be Diana.” She said, before getting up from her seat, and walking to the kitchen which was a few feet away from the dining.

After Peter and I had had the short discussion whilst walking away from the farmland earlier, he had led me to this particular hut house, a house directly adjacent to the clinic.

But unlike the clinic, it wasn’t just one room here. Bricks were used to divide the room which I had noticed to be larger than the clinic into three portions.

The first portion was the sitting room for entertaining visitors, and the other portion was for the kitchen, and then, the third was for the dinning.

The dining table was made from oak wood, and I had guessed correctly that the table had been made by a fellow villager, and not some city carpenter, even before Diana had begun to dish out the name of the carpenter that had made the fine piece of art.

As it turned out, almost every tool or object in the house was made by fellow villagers. The pots and kettles, plates, cupboards, everything in the house.

The interior decor of this brick hut house was a perfect blend of elegance and charm. I could tell that it had been designed with intensive care and love. It also highlighted the truth in Diana’s words. The love and unity among the villagers.

As I had stepped inside with Peter, I had been greeted by the warm, earthy tones of the exposed brick walls, giving the space a rustic and cozy feel.

The bricks also had been carefully preserved and treated to highlight their natural beauty. I had never seen such, not in my pack. My pack had been filled with ultra modern houses. And even though they had their pecks, my likeness for the hut-like house had begun to blossom.

The artworks adorning the walls added a touch of sophistication and personality to the space. Paintings and sculptures, carefully curated and placed, created focal points in the small room.

The artwork ranged from modern and abstract pieces to classic and traditional works, creating a harmonious mix of styles. I had been sure that once in a while, Peter or his wife paid a trip to the city. That was the only explanation for the modern arts. I had wondered which of them had the likeness for arts.

Flowery patterns were delicately incorporated throughout the house, adding a touch of femininity and softness. Floral wallpaper, curtains, and upholstery created a refreshing and inviting atmosphere.

The patterns ranged from bold and vibrant blooms to subtle and delicate floral motifs, ensuring a variety of visual experiences throughout the house.

The furniture was carefully chosen to complement the overall aesthetic. Rich wooden pieces, such as antique tables and cabinets, add a sense of history and timelessness.

There were two plush sofas too and an armchair upholstered in nicely dyed fabric, with floral patterns that echo the overall theme.

The lighting fixtures too were designed to enhance the ambiance of each room. I hadn’t spotted a socket or electric wires but the table and floor lamps with floral-inspired bases provided additional lighting options while adding a decorative touch.

The flooring was a mix of hardwood and a patterned material, I have no idea what it was, carefully chosen to complement the overall decor.

The wooden floors added warmth and a sense of tradition, while the patterned material in the dining and kitchen added a playful and lively element.

Overall, the brick house with its artworks and flowery patterns exuded a sense of elegance and grace. It was a space where rustic charm meets refined aesthetics, creating a welcoming and visually captivating environment.

It felt like home. A place I can stay in all comfortability without fear of death or fear of being ousted for being different. I only hope the feeling would be returned by the community.
