This phrase kept ringing in my ear, undaunted by my picking of clothes from the community’s mall.
It is smaller than the malls in the human world, but at least they had one, my pack had none. Clothes were bought from the human malls.
“Maya, don’t you like the clothes?” That was Laura. I wasn’t aware that she had been standing beside me all this while.
I nodded, then shook my head when I thought that she might misinterpret my nod.
I liked the clothes, all of them. They were comfortable and beautiful. Laura had mentioned at one time during the tour that some of them were made with magic. They were of course costlier than the others, due to their value, but she had managed to snag me two. A sweater, and scarf.
When I had touched them, I had felt peace. I could literally feel the magic running through them. Laura seems to think that I could feel those because I had the magic trait. A normal person wouldn’t even notice.
“I like the clothes, Laura. How could I not?” I asked her, fixing a ghostly smile on my face, but she must have noticed because she pulled on my shoulder and hugged me to herself.
OKay, this woman has been getting touchy lately. Is she always like this?
“I know you have a lot of questions, but I and Peter already promised that we would answer all your questions when we convene at home later this evening. Can you wait till then, and cheer up now, please she said, her plea so much evident in her voice, that I began to wonder why she was so insistent in not talking about this in the environment.
“From Queen Aliana’s attitude a few hours ago, I am sure that she is not happy that you have decided to stay with us, and so must have tasked people to watch us, study our relations and words with you in public. Who knows? probably even in private. So, that’s why I have been cagey lately. Diana wouldn’t want you gone. And if I am honest, I don’t want you gone either. You remind me a lot of my daughter that had died during the last communal war. And I find myself unable to lose the hold on you, no matter how hard I try. So please could you keep a happy face until we are home?” she pleaded, and I nodded, feeling sorry that I had put her in this position.
“I am sorry Laura for being selfish. I will do better from now on.” I promised, picking a set of undies from its rack, and checking its sizes.
“Does it fit you?” she asked, peering at the box, and I nodded, knowing that she had missed this, shopping with her daughter.
I didn’t know if she was ready to talk about her daughter, so I didn’t ask. Rather I let her fuss over the price like a mother would.
While I watched her pay at the counter, my eyes zeroes in on the guy behind her.
For a second, I almost scream. I thought that I was seeing Adam in the flesh and blood, my heartbeat had already escalated, and I had been set to take to my heels when I remembered that I was in a witch’s community. No way would Adam be here.
But I kept looking at the guy, even when Laura tapped me on the shoulder, indicating that she was done paying, and that we could be going. She had to prepare lunch before Diana came back from her classes.
“Who is that?” I asked her, unable to hold myself back.
I saw her fury in her eyes, I saw her turn up her lips in near disgust, I saw her take in and vomit the guy’s appearance before she gave me a reply.
“That’s Queen Aliana’s son. I don’t understand what he is doing here. They have servants all over their house who could get him the stuff that he want. Does this make him feel more important?” Laura asked, and I soughed, noting then, the throng of girls behind him, gaping and awning.
Wow. This was no different from the happenings around Adam in the pack.
“He is a twin. His sister is the girl we had seen in the queen’s office.” She added, but I had already put the two and two together, especially when the guy turned aside after paying the gushing clerk, and stared right at me, or rather at the door behind me. Well, at first, before his eyes riveted to mine.
While Adam’s eyes were blue, his were a startling green, forest green, and he was damn handsome, and worse, he knew it, he just didn’t know me. I saw it in the wondering line on his forehead.
But I cared less, especially since his admirers now turned to look at his object of fascination.
“I think this is the best time to go, Laura.” I mentioned, already swiveling and walking toward the door, not waiting for Laura’s response, but knowing that she would agree, and that she would be right behind me.

Peter had mentioned earlier before leaving us that there was no need for it most of the time, unless the person wanted to go on a long trip. He mentioned though, that everyone had a car, including him. His was behind the clinic. I couldn’t wait to see it by the way. I was actually curious about the cars they ride here. Magically made cars, or fuel driven man made cars.
Speaking of Peter, was he back already? He had branched at his friend’s place to make an order for a bed and a wardrobe, and some other stuff. I had wanted to ask him then how it was going to fit in Diana’s not so big room, but I had kept mute. They had magic. Anything was possible. I had thought, foregoing the question.
“Do you think we should check out the market, Maya? I need to get something, and probably you could know the area, Yeah?” Laura asked, and I nodded. That was okay. Market meant food.
