Aubrey shook her head. “Right now, Alpha Henry will do anything I ask. And yes, he is… special to me. But no matter how good things are, I still want to give myself a way out.”
Alpha Mateo looked slightly puzzled, but her last sentence clarified everything. “So, helping me -this is your backup plan?”
He couldn’t help but laugh. He knew Alpha Henry well. That man loved fiercely and held on tight–once he gave his heart, he’d never let go. In Mateo’s eyes, Aubrey was worrying over nothing.
But Aubrey nodded solemnly. “If things go wrong, I’d rather have you to fall back on. If they don’t, then I don’t mind you profiting from it. The Shadowmoon Pack is already strong enough. Killing Ulrich will only ignite more conflict across the continent. But for the Zach family? This is a golden opportunity. Aubrey paused, then said softly, “I guess it’s because… he was the first person I ever liked.”

“Me?” Alpha Mateo glanced at the cigarette in his fingers and let out a bitter laugh. “Probably started because of someone who’s been giving me a headache…”
Aubrey didn’t dwell on it. The only thing that mattered to her was whether her plan would succeed.

He took a deep breath, then said with conviction, “If what you’ve told me is all true, then I’m in. I brought thirty beta warriors with me. That should be enough!”
Aubrey raised her brow, a cold smile tugging at her lips.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the look on Ulrich’s face.”
