Jensen said lightly, “It’s nothing. If your condition could get Witch Doctor to see you, you might recover better. Since you don’t know him, I’ll keep looking. If I can’t find him, there’s nothing more I can do-you’ll just have to recover slowly.” Content originally comes from
Hearing that, Sharon didn’t fully believe him, but she still looked grateful. “Thank you, Jensen, for caring about me.”
“Rest up.
I’ll come see you when I have time.”
Not getting the answer he wanted from Sharon, Jensen’s mood soured. He rose to leave, but Sharon grabbed his wrist.
“Jensen, could you stay with me a little longer?”
“I have work. If I don’t earn money, where am I supposed to get money to support you? Don’t be ridiculous.”
Jensen wrenched his hand free and walked out briskly. He didn’t notice the flicker of resentment that crossed Sharon’s eyes.
Outside, he grabbed a towel, wiped the spot where Sharon had held him, then tossed the towel into the trash.
If Sharon didn’t know Witch Doctor, then Dr. Johnson was very likely sent by Witch Doctor. If that were true, could Sharon’s cancer story also have been engineered by Witch Doctor-to make Jensen feel guilty for her, to distract him from Natalie, to make Natalie disappointed and give up?
The more Jensen thought, the more convinced he became. But why would Witch Doctor do this to him?
He couldn’t forget their clash at the ghost market-at that moment, Witch Doctor had really tried to kill him. So Witch Doctor’s aim must be to tear him and Natalie apart, right? That bastard. He had to find Witch Doctor.
Jensen left in a fury.
Natalie knew nothing of this and didn’t care. She lost herself in sketching the designs in her head and forgot everything else.
When Yvonne returned and didn’t see Jensen, she assumed he had already left. She wanted to say something to Natalie, but seeing how focused Natalie was, she didn’t want to interrupt.

There was nothing else for her to do in the studio.

Yvonne remembered a café down the street that made good coffee. She decided to grab a cup to perk Natalic up.
She bought two coffees and was walking back to the studio when someone bumped into her on the road and some of the coffee spilled.
“Can’t you watch where you’re going?” Yvonne snapped, annoyed-the cup she’d bought for her sister-in-law was ruined.
The other person didn’t even have time to apologize before scrambling to run off. Yvonne’s temper snapped.
“Hey, you hit me-don’t you apologize?” she called, grabbing the person by the collar to stop them.
“Let go! Let go of me!” the woman screamed when she realized she couldn’t get away. Her hair was a tangled mess that hid her face, but her shrill voice and frantic movements made it clear she was terrified.
Yvonne wondered briefly whether she looked that frightening. “Hey, you ran into me-why are you acting like this?” she demanded.
The woman ignored her and suddenly began punching and kicking. When she couldn’t break free, she instinctively opened her mouth and bit Yvonne’s arm.
“Ouch!” Yvonne’s temper flared. Seeing the woman behave like a madman, and as the bite landed, she struck back and knocked the woman unconscious.
From the corner of her eye, Yvonne saw someone watching from around the bend. Was the woman being chased? she wondered.
She hadn’t meant to get involved, but now the woman was out cold; she couldn’t just leave her on the roadside. Yvonne regretted acting so quickly. There was nothing to do now but load the woman into her car and drive off.
Sure enough, not long afterward, a car began to follow them, keeping a steady distance but never closing in or attempting to intercept. Yvonne found it odd and decided to take the woman to Baron’s Ocean City office.
When she parked, the tailing car vanished. Yvonne frowned and carried the unconscious woman into the office.
Baron frowned when he saw her. “What are you doing here? Weren’t you at the studio?”

When Baron heard that Jensen had gone to find trouble with Natalie again, his anger flared. “That annoying fly Jensen-sometimes I wish I could slap him dead.”
Yvonne stifled a grin.
