She knew all too well that people’s hearts could change; but she also knew she couldn’t live in fear of what might happen someday–she couldn’t let that stop her from reaching out, from letting someone in.
She whispered, “I believe my husband will come for me.”
“Thank you, sweetheart, for having so much faith in me.”
The moment the words left her mouth, Baron’s voice echoed through the cabin.
Beth jumped in fright.
“Who’s there?”
Natalie lit up with joy, standing straight up.
“Baron? Is that you? Where are you?”
She’d heard his voice, hadn’t she?
It couldn’t be her imagination.
But she looked all around the cabin and saw no trace of him.
When Baron heard the happiness in her voice, his heart–tight with fear–finally eased.
“It’s me! Open the window in the cabin–I’m in the water outside.”
Beth froze for half a second, then rushed to the hidden window and pried it open.
Baron vaulted in at once.
He still had the oxygen tank strapped to his back, but the instant he climbed inside, he went straight to Natalie and pulled her tightly into his arms.
“Babe, I finally found you.”
For such a big man, his voice broke as he spoke; his body trembled slightly.
Natalie’s eyes misted over.
It had only been two days since she’d gone missing–but to her, it felt like a lifetime.

If it had been before, she would have been desperate, terrified; but this time, because of Baron, she’d never stopped believing he would find her.
That faith came from him.
Now, feeling the warmth of his chest and the damp chill of his clothes, her tears finally spilled
over.
All the fear and worry she’d been holding in shattered in that embrace.
“I missed you too. Baron… what took you so long?”
Her voice trembled, breaking his heart.
“I’m sorry–it’s my fault. I couldn’t get to you sooner; I made you worry. Let me see—are you hurt anywhere?”
He unhooked the oxygen tank from his back and quickly looked her over–up and down, left and right—until he was sure she wasn’t hurt. Only then did he breathe out in relief; though he noticed faint bloodstains on her wrist.
“Your wrist–are you
hurt?”
His brow furrowed at once.
Natalie quickly shook her head.
“No–it’s someone else’s blood.”
The memory of Sam’s death made her shiver all over again.
Seeing her like that, Baron didn’t want her to stay another second.
“The helicopter’s hovering overhead; it hasn’t landed yet. More people are on their way here. We’ll use that distraction–I’ll have them lower the
rope ladder. You go first!”
He reached for his phone as he spoke, but Natalie stopped him.
“You’re not coming with me?”
His gaze darkened.
“They dared to kidnap my woman and plan to sell you off; whoever’s behind this better be ready for
my wrath.”

Baron’s whole body radiated killing intent, and Beth froze, terrified. This isn’t a normal man … this is a demon.
She couldn’t have been more grateful that she hadn’t crossed Natalie–that she’d chosen wisely instead. Otherwise, once Baron came and found out Natalie had been sold, she’d have been dead already.
Just the thought of it made her shudder.
That was when Baron finally noticed there was someone else in the room.
A scalpel slid silently from his sleeve into his palm, and in a bluṛ, he was in front of Beth.
The cold blade pressed right against the artery in her neck.
“You were guarding my wife?”
Every word dripped with menace.
Beth’s legs gave out beneath her.
Natalie saw what was happening and spoke quickly. “Baron, don’t hurt her. If it weren’t for her, I might have already—”
She stopped, remembering her disfigured reflection, Kasen’s greedy eyes. If Beth hadn’t shielded her, she might have already been violated.
Baron’s eyes darkened again.
“Someone tried to touch you?”
“It’s over now. Baron, this isn’t a safe place. We should go.”
Natalie didn’t know who was behind all of this, but for someone to orchestrate such an elaborate auction, they had to be powerful.
Baron couldn’t afford to expose his identity here.

He grabbed the oxygen tank and began strapping it onto Natalie himself.
