Chapter 326 Rachel’s Shadow
Natalie’s words cut Jensen short, silencing both his arguments and his emotions.
The fire–that was the wall between them he could never cross.

Every time Jensen thought of abandoning Natalie in those flames, regret and pain clawed at
his chest.
His voice was hoarse. “Natalie, is it because of that fire? Will you never forgive me because of it? Tell me, what do I have to do for you to give me a chance to atone? ”
That fire had been Sharon’s doing. Sharon had hidden from him that Natalie was inside. It had been Sharon’s fault. So why couldn’t Natalie give him another chance?
His eyes reddened.
Baron saw it and almost laughed. Oh no – this old fox was trying to win sympathy from my wife!
Absolutely not.
“Sweetheart,” Baron cut in quickly, “it’s nearly noon. Shouldn’t we head home for lunch? Mom and Dad must be waiting for us.”
Natalie glanced at her watch. It was true, noon was near.
past. What’s Then she remembered her purpose here. “Jensen, I don’t want to talk about the done is done. Nothing you say or do now can make up for the fact that I nearly died. I didn’t come here to reminisce or to argue about pointless things. I came here because of Rachel.”
At that, Baron blinked in surprise.
Rachel? When had a Rachel entered the picture? He’d only been away a short while, and suddenly there was someone new? Chris hadn’t mentioned this.
Jensen, however, sobered at the sound of the name.
“You found out who Rachel is? Don’t tell me you’re here to make me spy on my
mother.”
He was quick–too quick.
Natalie didn’t bother to deny it.
“Yes. That’s exactly why I came. Rachel has contacted your mother. The only way to find her

weakness is through your mother. I already know who Rachel is, but I can’t find any information about her. She’s also tied to another person, which means I can’t act rashly. And I’m sure there are eyes watching me already. That’s why I came to you,”
Jensen lowered his voice. “But that’s my mother. If this somehow links back to her–and to the baby–swapping case from twenty years ago–would you hold it against me, or against the Luke family?”
Natalie paused, then shook her head.
“No. I’ll only go after the culprit. You and your Luke family are of no interest to me. I won’t take it out on you.”
Baron still didn’t know what they were talking about, but that didn’t stop him from pulling out his phone to message Chris.
“What’s going on with Rachel?”
Outside, Chris was chewing on a blade of grass, staring up at the sky, still mulling over Baron’s earlier warning that the police station was compromised today–at least three different parties involved. He was trying to figure out which three, and whether they posed a threat to the Stone family and the young lady.
Just then, his phone buzzed.
He glanced down–it was Baron, asking about Rachel.
Chris instantly remembered he’d never filled Baron in.
He quickly explained everything he knew about Rachel, including the eerie similarities between Rachel and Anna.
Baron read the message, frowning, but he memorized it all.
Jensen, meanwhile, had clung to a shred of hope. He’d thought Natalie still held some grudge, that even if she confronted him in anger, at least it would mean she still cared.
But what had he just heard?
Natalie said she would never target him or the Luke family.
Did that mean she truly felt nothing for him now?
A dull ache spread in his chest.

Was it because of Baron?
He instinctively glanced at him–only to see Baron fiddling, with his phone, veemingly
indifferent to the entire conversation
He didn’t care about Natalie’s problems? Just playing on his phone
“Baron, are you even a man? Natalie is facing the aftermath of being swapped at birth, and you’re not even helping her investigate?
The words caught Baron off guard. He looked up at Jemen.
And he saw it–deep jealousy and bitterness in Jensen’s eyes.
The sight made Baron’s mood instantly brighter.
Jealous?
Of course. Jealous that Natalie cared for him.
Jensen had squandered her love when it was his to keep. Now he wanted to regret it? Who had spoiled him like this?
Baron leaned back lazily, smirking. I’m just a useless son–in–law. Even if I wanted to investigate, I’d need resources and connections. What do you say, Mr. Jensen? Planning to lend me yours?”
