Jensen caught the shimmer in Natalie’s eyes and forced a smile. “Natalie, I told you before–I really do love you. For you, I’d risk my life. Five years ago, you gave me your rib and I never even knew. I misunderstood you all these years, treated you unfairly. That was my fault. Taking this knife for you–I chose that. Don’t carry the guilt.”
Natalie bit her lip until it bled, unable to form a single word.
Baron slid an arm around her shoulders, steadying her. The familiar scent of him filled her senses, making her ache even more. She clutched his hand and whispered, “Baron, I know you can do something. Please–please save him.”
Jensen’s eyes lit up, his face pale but hopeful. “So you do still care for me, don’t you? If–if I survive this, will you give me a second chance?”
Natalie turned her face away. “Baron, don’t misunderstand. I just don’t want-”
“I know,” Baron cut her off gently. “Whatever else, Jensen saved you. That’s a fact. I won’t get jealous over it, don’t worry.”
The words made Jensen’s chest tighten painfully.
“Ah–it hurts! Am I dying?” he groaned suddenly, clutching at his wound.
Blood kept pouring out. Natalie’s panic spiked. She looked instinctively at Baron–if anyone knew what to do, it would be him.
Baron sighed, then pushed Natalie toward Yvonne. “Take care of your sister–in–law. I’ll keep Jensen alive until the medics get here—otherwise he won’t last.”
Jensen’s pride flared even now. “Don’t you touch me! Even if you save me, I’ll never owe you a thing.”
“Shut it. You’re bleeding out, and you never stop talking. How did Luke Corp end up with such a chatterbox as president?”
Baron pressed hard against the wound. Jensen howled, his scream echoing through the warehouse.
“Baron! That’s murder–you’re trying to kill me! Help! Natalie, save me!”
His thrashing only earned another hard shove to the wound. This time Jensen convulsed, trembling too hard to speak at all.

Yvonne leaned in quickly, murmuring to Natalic, “Don’t worry, sister–in–law. My brother learned plenty under Witch Doctor. He knows what he’s doing.”
But even as she said it, her chest tightened. When would the truth about Baron’s identity finally come out? And what if it blew up in their faces?
Baron, too, faltered at her words. Should he just admit it now–that he was Witch Doctor?
He had no time to decide. Jensen suddenly convulsed harder, his skin paling to chalk while veins darkened beneath. Blood pumped faster from his wound, and a faint purple tinge colored his lips.
Baron’s face darkened. “Yvonne! Get Westin–now! We can’t wait for an ambulance. If we don’t move him, he’ll die.”
Natalie’s heart lurched violently. Die? Jensen might really die?
Her thoughts tangled–he had taken the knife meant for her. She hadn’t wanted his sacrifice, but if he died because of it, the weight would crush her.
“Baron, please–you have to save him!” She gripped his sleeve with both hands, panic flashing in her eyes.
Baron’s voice steadied, calm even under the chaos. “Don’t worry. I won’t let him die for saving you.”
He flicked a glance at Yvonne. “Take your sister–in–law home. I’ll get Jensen to the hospital.”
Natalie’s voice wavered. “What’s happening to him?”
Baron hesitated, then spoke grimly. “The dagger was poisoned. The speed of his bleeding, the discoloration–it’s a powerful toxin. Anna wanted you dead, Natalie. This wasn’t meant to be a warning.”
Natalie’s face blanched. “Why? What hatred does she have for me that she’d go this far? …
call Witch Doctor? Ask him to treat Jensen?” Baron, could you
She knew the request was unfair–asking Baron to spend such a favor on Jensen, of all people. But the thought of letting Jensen die without trying made her voice tremble. Thᴇ link to the origɪn of this information rᴇsts ɪn.net
