“Of course it’s the Stone family’s son–in–law who found Witch Doctor,” Sharon sneered. “They owed Jensen a life. That’s the only reason.”
In a single breath, she stripped Baron of any credit.
Loretta’s brow creased. “Witch Doctor isn’t someone just anyone can reach. That Stone son–in- law must have some ability.”
Sharon pressed her advantage, voice edged with venom. “Five years ago, Natalie managed to track Witch Doctor down for Jensen’s surgery. Maybe she’s had a connection all along. And now she brings him again–who knows what kind of sordid dealings are between them?”
Loretta’s face darkened. A moment ago, she’d thought her son’s feelings for Natalie might be a chance–the Stone family’s power combined with Luke family prestige. But Sharon’s suggestion planted a seed of doubt. What if Natalie had ties with Witch Doctor all along? Something inappropriate? If so, why hadn’t Jensen married her when he had the chance?
Loretta’s mind whirled.
Lucy, the butler, wanted to defend Natalie, but Loretta’s expression warned her off. With Sharon here, even if Jensen wanted Natalie, Loretta wouldn’t allow it. Lucy held her tongue.
The car reached the hospital quickly. Loretta, with Sharon’s arm for support, hurried straight to the operating room.
“How is he? How’s Jensen?” she demanded, seizing Hansel’s hand.
Hansel had rushed there as soon as he’d heard. “We don’t know yet. He’s been inside for somet time. Witch Doctor is operating himself. If anyone can save him, it’s Witch Doctor–but if even he fails…” Hansel trailed off.
Loretta caught the implication anyway.
“Witch Doctor was brought by the Stone son–in–law?” she pressed.
“Yes,” Hansel nodded.

Westin had been meant to escort Natalie and Yvonne to the police, but Natalie, wary that Baron might be cornered alone by the Luke family, had sent him ahead with backup. Hearing Loretta’s accusation, Westin silently approved his lady’s foresight. If not for Jensen stepping in, Baron himself would never have lifted a scalpel. Did the Luke family really think they were worthy?
Westin gave Loretta a cool look. “I represent the Stone family. If there’s news about Mr. Jensen, you can speak to me. Madam and sir have no time to spare.”
Even as his words faded, the light over the operating room clicked off. Loretta, Sharon, and Westin turned as one to the door.
“Doctor! How’s my son?” Loretta rushed forward.
Sharon, however, hung back, eyes fixed on the masked figure emerging.
So this was Witch Doctor.
Younger than she expected. Tall, broad–shouldered. The kind of presence that hinted at striking features beneath the mask.
Her heart skipped.
Five years ago, she’d slandered Natalie with rumors of an affair just to tarnish her. Now, seeing Witch Doctor’s cold, untouchable aura, Sharon realized Natalie may have truly begged him for help back then.
And what if she could claim him for herself? Witch Doctor’s reputation eclipsed titles–princes and magnates alike sought him out. To have him would be a security greater than Luke Corp itself.
Her blood thrummed with sudden excitement. She smoothed her dress, stepped lightly forward, and spoke in a trembling, delicate voice.
“Are you… Witch Doctor? They say your skill is unmatched. Saving Mr. Jensen must be nothing at all for someone like you, isn’t that right?”
