Susie clapped her hands and pointed at the sky. “See those drones? My brother’s the one controlling them. And the stuff I injected those men with just now–that was his invention too. Don’t worry, grandpa; my brother’s got Mr. Payne’s people watching his back. He’ll be fine.”
Her words only made Waylon more uneasy.
“You two little rascals–do you have any idea how dangerous this is?”
They were dealing with ruthless terrorists; these kids were Baron and Natalie’s whole world. If anything happened to them, how could I ever face Natalie?
Susie just stuck out her tongue. “Oh, come on, grandpa, don’t be so scared! My brother and I have done way crazier stuff on the island.”
“What do you mean, crazier stuff? You and your brother mess around with dangerous things like this on that island? Doesn’t your father care at all?”
Waylon was livid. Baron had never mentioned how he raised his children.
He’d always thought, seeing how mature and well–behaved they were, that Baron had done a fine job; but hearing this, he was ready to explode.
“What island? You were living on an island before this?”
“Yeah! Daddy left my brother and me there with a couple of servants to watch us. We hardly ever saw him all year, and he wouldn’t let us contact the outside world. It was so boring! My brother and I just played with animals all day.”
The more she talked, the more Waylon’s heart ached.
“You mean to tell me all that dangerous stuff–you two made it yourselves on that island?”
His palms were slick with sweat. These are explosives, for God’s sake! How could Baron possibly let his kids play with that?
Susie, however, seemed unfazed. She kicked her legs casually and said, “Yup! We were bored, so we started experimenting. It was fun! Relax, Grandpa–this stuff’s child’s play for us; we’d never get hurt.”
Waylon nearly fainted. Child’s play? What kind of decent family lets their kids mess with explosives and calls it child’s play?

Seeing Waylon about to pass out, Flynn quickly pulled Susie into his arms.
“Stop talking. If you keep going, your grandpa’s going to kill your dad.”
Susie blinked, confused. “Why would Grandpa kill Daddy?”
“Don’t ask.”
Flynn immediately covered her mouth.
Waylon’s face was dark with anger.
Meanwhile, inside the villa, the cloaked man began sensing something was wrong. The tear gas outside, the explosions – they all seemed fake?
He turned sharply; the place where Waylon and Flynn had been tied was now empty. His men were sprawled out on the ground, unconscious.
His eyes darted to the balcony window.
The curtains fluttered in the wind; the window was wide open, and fresh footprints dotted the sill.
“Damn it!”
He nearly choked on his rage.
He’d been played by a bunch of kids. Unbelievable.
“What the hell are you all doing?”
He kicked the nearest man twice, his voice cold and furious. “What are you waiting for, to get caught? Move out! Now!”
He yanked open the living room door, trying to escape, but something was hurled straight toward him.
Instinctively, he tried to block it—but too late.
A cluster of small, bomb–like canisters came flying into the room.
Thick smoke filled the air, carrying a strange scent that made his head spin.
As his knees began to buckle, he pulled a knife from his boot and slashed his own arm.

Blood splattered across the floor, and the pain snapped him back to consciousness.
He didn’t stop to think; he bolted for the exit.
“Stop! Don’t let him get away!”
Outside, Payne’s team was already closing the net.
The man fought his way through them, barely escaping in the chaos.
Payne looked over the subdued black–clad men, his expression turning stormy when he realized the main target was gone.
Just then, Sean appeared in camouflage gear, holding a drone controller.
“Mr. Payne, I think he’s heading toward the docks,” he said as he walked over.
Payne glanced at the screen in Sean’s hands and saw a red dot speeding across the map.
“When did you tag him with a tracker?”
Payne’s eyes flashed with astonishment. Good Lord.
The kid was only five years old.
An absolute prodigy.
