Chapter 27
Everyone screamed in panic:
“Sophial Move! Get out of there p>
But I was still trapped in those traumatic memories, completely unable to snap out of it.
So Ethan shoved me out of the way–and the knife went straight into his stomach instead.
Charlotte looked shocked when she realized she’d stabbed the wrong person.
“Ethan‘ I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to hurt you p>
But then her expression turned vicious again.
“It’s all that bitch’s fault! If it wasn’t for her, you wouldn’t be hurt, Mom and Dad wouldn’t have abandoned me, and you’d be marrying ME p>
Even as she was talking, her hands kept moving–she stabbed him seven or eight more times.
Ethan’s face went deathly pale. “Charlotte, even if Sophia didn’t exist, I would never marry you p>
“That’s impossible!” She ignored him completely and came at me again with the knife.
“Sophia! Snap out of it p>
Being pushed down by Ethan finally jolted me back to reality.
Looking at this woman who’d torn open my old wounds and created new ones, I was absolutely furious.
When she lunged at me with the knife, I easily dodged and grabbed her wrist, twisting hard until she dropped it.
“Charlotte, you’re such a pathetic idiot p>
After I got her under control, the police–who someone had called earlier–finally arrived.
The officers quickly restrained Charlotte and took her away.
We rushed to the hospital.
Marcus just had some cuts that needed bandaging, then he was fine and went to give his statement to the police.
But Ethan had been stabbed seven or eight times–he’d lost way too much blood and fell into a coma.
After his surgery, I sat by his bedside constantly. Visitors came and went, updating me on Charlotte’s situation.
She was sentenced to ten years for assault and invasion of privacy, but during her pre–trial detention, the officers noticed she was acting erratically. After evaluation, they found she had severe mental illness.
While this got her out of prison, she was committed to a psychiatric facility instead. She’d probably never get out.
Ethan was unconscious for a full week. Then one day, the hand I was holding suddenly moved.
I immediately woke up and found a nurse, trying to keep my voice down in my excitement. “The patient in room 101 is awake p>
After a bunch of tests, the doctor said he’d be able to go home in a few more days.
That night, he stroked my hair to comfort me and told me about the dreams he’d been having.
“I saw you in my dreams. You looked so pitiful–it was snowing, but you were barefoot, and then you collapsed p>
“I wanted to save you, so I kept running and running toward you. Then it got light and I woke up p>
His story was kind of rambling and confused, but I started crying because that’s exactly how I died in my past life–collapsed on the street and froze to
death.
After Ethan recovered, we had another wedding ceremony on some island in the Pacific.
But this time, it was just our immediate families.
Ever since Ethan told me about that dream, I sometimes wondered if maybe his soul from my past life really had somehow crossed over to save me.
But I never asked him about it. I was so happy with everything I had now–I was terrified that if I questioned it too much, this dream might end too.
I didn’t want to wake up.
