The SAT room was dead silent except for the mind of #2 pencils filling in bubbles.
I walked in alone, totally ren about the whole thing.
Having lived through this before, questions that used to make me panic now seemed obvious. All my past knowledge plus the extra studying I’d done made this feel like a practice test
When scores came out weeks later, our phone was blowing up nonstop.
The local paper wanted to interview me.
My photo made the front page – highest SAT score in the district.
When our counselor called with the news, Mom started bawling happy tears while Dad immediately got on Instagram to humble–brag to everyone.
But they weren’t actually proud of me they just loved having something to show off about.
Their celebration died real quick though.
Blake, Ryan, and Kai’s names were nowhere on the high scorer lists.
The house went dead silent.
Mom kept refreshing the school portal: “This has to be wrong… Blake’s had a 4.0 since freshman year! ”
Dad went into full Karen mode, already dialing the principal’s office.
That’s when someone started banging on our front door.
I opened it to find two cops in uniform looking like they meant business.
They did a quick sweep of our living room before their eyes landed on my parents and the three morons who’d just wandered downstairs.
“We need to speak with Blake, Ryan, and Kai Morrison p>
All three of them shuffled over looking totally clueless.
Ryan immediately got an attitude: “ Yo, what’s this about? Why are there cops at my house? ”
The officers completely ignored him and pulled out some paperwork.

Mom and Dad completely freaked out, practically lunging at the cops.
