Senna was twisting the whole story, and her lies were full of holes.
But Caspian bought every word without thinking.

I tried to fight back, but he pressed down harder.

The pain was so intense I could barely keep my face straight. Furious and disgusted, I spat through gritted teeth: “Only you would treat some cuckoo bird like treasure. Just wait–I’ll be there when you come crashing down p>
The words “cuckoo bird” seemed to hit a nerve with Senna.
She went completely psycho, clawing and hitting me, then grabbed a stun baton from the bodyguard.

Without thinking, Senna raised the baton with all her strength and swung it at me.
Caspian had me pinned down–I couldn’t move, could only close my eyes in despair.
But the expected pain never came. Instead, I heard Caspian’s panicked voice:

I opened my eyes to find Phoenix–who should’ve been in his hospital room–standing in front of me, taking the hit meant for me.
His face was deathly pale, but he struggled to stay upright as he spoke:

Caspian stared at the battered Phoenix, completely stunned.
Before he could react, Senna covered her face and started crying.
“So this guy’s your uncle? Caspian, maybe we should call off the engagement! Seraphina didn’t just kidnap me–she got your uncle to assault me too. If our bodyguard hadn’t shown up in time p>

Watching Senna’s tears, the last trace of doubt disappeared from Caspian’s eyes.
He glared at Phoenix furiously. “Uncle, how could you team up with this bitch to hurt Senna? You’ve completely disappointed me p>
Caspian knocked Phoenix to the ground with a few hits, then grabbed the baton and walked toward me with murder in his eyes.
This was the fourth floor VIP ward–nurses and doctors rarely came up here.
