But it wasn’t Tracy who answered him. It was Laxus. He peered out of the window and said in a low, gravelly voice, “We are doubling back from where we originally started.” He glanced at Finn, who seemed visibly annoyed that he had taken the initiative to answer instead of letting Tracy do it for him. “It’s actually quite easy to see if you just take a look outside.”
He then turned to look at Dominic before asking, “Isn’t it, Alpha Cherith?”
Dominic simply glanced at the man and didn’t say a word. He had been like that ever since Tracy let him go after kissing him. If not for the fact that the man was still moving, Finn would have thought that he had stopped breathing completely.
The way he looked at Tracy—it made Finn go all protective—like he was determined to skin this woman alive. As if she had stolen something precious from him, and he didn’t like it. Not even the slightest. All because she had kissed him. And it couldn’t be called being kissed either. It was just a little — well, whatever; he didn’t want to start thinking about it, or else he was worried that he would lose his mind.
Laxus also seemed to realise that he wasn’t going to get an answer. He turned to look at Tracy and asked, “Where are we going? Back to the Silver Dawn pack?”
“No,” Tracy answered without any expression on her beautiful face. “There was a trace on the body, and I am tracking them.”
“What do you mean by trace?” Ajax asked after he finished moaning about how his beautiful skin was about to be ruined due to the lack of sleep. “I didn’t see any trace.”
“When someone commits a murder, they leave a trace behind. Like a piece of their energy behind…even when they are humans,” explained Tracy as if they were all a bunch of confused toddlers with not a single brain cell in their bodies. Her eyes flicked up to the mirror, then back at the road. “The one who killed this woman was a shifter; that’s why I needed his help.”
Dominic frowned upon hearing her response.
“I am sorry. But I don’t think any of us understood that.” Laxus spoke for the entire group, and Tracy heaved heavily like she was disappointed at their stupidity, and suddenly Finn wanted to tell her that he was not with them.
“As the killer was a shifter… only someone with shifter blood could have traced them, but this killer’s identity was masked with the help of magic. This was the reason why I needed someone who had an affinity with magic. That was the only way I could have cracked it.” She glanced at the man fuming in the back seat and added, “So don’t think too much. You are nothing special.” The rıghtful source is.net
Dominic narrowed his eyes and squinted at the woman. “What a pity. How am I even allowed to live with this heartbreak?” He asked, coating every syllable with an undertone of bitter sarcasm and anger.
No one understood what Tracy did —it was some weird, magical sort of energy transmission or something—something that required the two of them to be in physical contact. But the thought that she kissed him even when she didn’t want to brought a sense of satisfaction in his heart.
A tiny flare of happiness bloomed in his chest.
It seemed like she had no interest in him.
The sky now looked even clearer than before.
“Don’t worry, you will live. But if you want, you can be my hookup call,” she said so casually that Finn almost toppled out of his own seat. He turned to look at the witch, his eyes widening in shock as he realised what she said to Dominic. Didn’t she say that she hated him? Then why was she suddenly agreeing to be with him? What the hell was going on?
“What did you say to me?” Dominic asked. His voice rose with such heat that Finn was surprised that the car didn’t burst right then and there.
She shrugged her shoulders. “I said that if you are feeling so upset, then you can be my boy toy. I treat them really well, I promise.”
And just like that, the little glow in his heart turned cold. He turned to look out of the window, trying to ignore whatever he was feeling at the moment. Of course, how did he even come to the conclusion that the witch didn’t have any interest in the big, bad alpha? Dominic was not only good-looking, but he was also rich and powerful. He even had a what —oh yeah—a magic affinity. Something that he could never have. Clearly, he was a much better option than him. While Dominic got a straight-up option to get into her bed, he was sitting next to her, dreaming about whether he could ever get the chance to slip his hand in her curls and—
Fuck. This wasn’t him. He was not the kind of man who would get possessive over a woman, and he was certainly not the kind of man who would get jealous. He was the beta of the Red Blood Hill pack—the man who knew how to keep business and pleasure separate. The one who had more women to serve him than anyone could imagine. He had refused women all along; since when did he start acting like this?
And yet all he could think about was how Tracy’s warm skin would feel after being flushed against her. The last time she touched him, he realised her skin was really soft. He wondered what she even did to her skin.
Her touch was warm and soft. Fleeting even. One that would remain stuck in your head if you were to forget her. Like the start of a memory.
The second his brain started playing that half, he started to feel himself going hard. Damn, he really needed to get his mind out of the gutter.
