Ryder’s heartbeat drums steadily beneath my ear, grounding me even as my body trembles, spent and sated. I can’t help the breathless laugh that escapes me, a soft, giddy sound I never knew I could make. It’s the kind of laugh that slips out when you feel completely safe—completely his.
His fingers comb gently through my hair, soothing and protective, so different from the raw intensity of just moments ago. It leaves me dizzy, the stark contrast between the man who can unravel me and the man who tenderly holds me back together.
I let my body relax into his warmth, my breathing starting to slow. But I know Ryder—my Ryder—and he’s not ready for this to end.
