I woke up feeling like I’d been hit by a freight train. My body ached in ways I didn’t even know were possible, but the dull throb in my head was the worst part. I blinked against the too-bright light streaming into the room, groaning as I shifted on the bed.
“Ugh, what the hell?” I muttered, trying to sit up.
My hands moved to the bandaged arm instinctively, but I paused mid-motion.
My fingers brushed over smooth, unmarred skin. No bandage. No pain.

“Layla?” I asked groggily, reaching for the comfort of my wolf.

Her words hit me like a splash of cold water. Ryder. My eyes darted around the room, and sure enough, he was there, leaning against the far wall. Dark circles etched under his eyes, his jaw tense like he hadn’t slept in days.
