Chapter 19
After taking a seat, his brows stayed drawn together. Heidi saw it and slowly sat beside him,
her slim hand gently holding his.
“Ezra, does being with me make you this unhappy?”
After speaking, she cried a few times softly.
Ezra couldn’t handle it, like waking up all at once, he held her waist and spoke in a low voice.
“I just don’t get it. Why hasn’t Evie contacted me for so long? She wasn’t like this before.”
These words sounded in her ears like a silent challenge.
Her other hand tightly held her skirt, her teeth pressing her lower lip, her heart full of jealousy.
But the next second, she still showed a soft smile. “Ezra, don’t think too much. Evie has a bad temper and likes to stay upset. When her anger is gone, she’ll naturally come back to you.”
Ezra seemed to agree and gave a light nod.
Before, Evie showed an immature temper. Whether she felt jealous or upset, it didn’t matter. If
he bought her something, her anger would disappear.
On another day, when he came back to Kansas and brought something she liked, her anger
would slowly fade, and everything would pass.
No matter how many fights happened, it didn’t matter. After all, they still had a place together,
and Evie cared about him deeply.
One month later, he went back to Kansas with Heidi.
The instant they arrived in Kansas, Ezra sent her back to Fairview Heights. During the ride, his
thoughts felt complicated.
The trip was short. The car stopped at the entrance, but a security guard blocked them.
The guard’s proud voice went into their ears. “Hey, hey, hey, if you are not the owner, you
cannot park in this place!”
For a moment, both of them had confused looks on their faces.
Heidi looked full of pride, rolled the window down, pointed at him, and said, “Are you blind?! I
am the owner of this place!”
The guard looked down at her with a cold expression and laughed.
When he saw this, Ezra opened the car door, got out, and stood in front of the guard.
“Captain Henry? This villa at Fairview Heights is mine. What are you saying now?”
He believed that when the guard noticed him, he’d go back to that former respectful manner,
but the man didn’t care at all.
“I spit on you cheating couples! Miss Russo already sold this house, how can it be yours!”
When those words were heard, Heidi, who had been feeling confident with support, quickly
got out of the vehicle.
“What nonsense are you saying? This house belongs to our President Howard!”
As soon as she finished, the man in front picked up a broom from the guard room and waved
it at them, making both step back in shock.
“Go away now, you shameless pair, don’t dirty the air, or I’ll beat you with this broom!”
“And President Howard? Just a toy boy!”
The pair were driven back and didn’t dare move closer, so they quickly returned to the vehicle.
After entering the vehicle, Ezra angrily called again, yet it still wouldn’t go through.
He suddenly tossed the phone onto the rear seat. He stayed quiet and kept driving forward.
Heidi carefully watched him and softly spoke.
“Ezra, isn’t that house yours? Why does that guard say that?”
His eyes didn’t shift. He kept looking straight at the road ahead.
Ezra felt a strange irritation. A sense of worry slowly consumed him.
“That house belongs to Evie. It’s her property from before marriage.”
Hearing that, Heidi’s expression turned very unpleasant, and she quickly asked.
“But you clearly said you gave that house to me. She sold it without telling you. She clearly
doesn’t respect you!”
Those few lines weren’t enough, so she kept speaking in a low tone.
“Evie now is very capable. Using such cheap tricks, isn’t it just to get your attention? So
shameless!”
Ezra’s hand struck the wheel forcefully as he spoke in a harsh tone.
“Enough, just be quiet!”
His sudden temper shocked her, and she didn’t dare say another word for the rest of the ride.
When the car stopped once more outside a mansion, Heidi wore a delighted smile, quietly
thinking to herself.
“Evie, so what if you got rid of the house? He’s bringing me back here in the open now! What
do you have that can measure up to me?”
