Goddess Of The Underworld Chapter 251

Chapter 251 Soul Bound

I’ve seen a lot of things die. Souls torn from bodies, light fading from eyes, entire armies collapsing under the weight of my scythe. But nothing–nothing–has ever broken me like watching that bond snap into place between Macey and Dean. It happened in a breath. Her wolf burst through the light, white and blinding, all power and grace and divine fury. And the moment she looks at him–really looks at him–I feel it. That pull, that invisible thread, the unmistakable flare of the mate bond locking into place. It was so bright it hurt to look at it. So final, I could barely breathe. Dean’s face twisted with awe, with victory. “Mate,” he whispered, voice trembling with reverence. His mate** For a heartbeat, she was. I felt it settle, that impossible tether snapping taut between them. I felt it like a blade driven through my ribs, splitting me clean in half. My heart shattered. There was no slow ache, no graceful unravelling; it was just one single, devastating break. I couldn’t even look away. I was forced to stand there, bleeding, barely breathing, as Dean stepped closer, his hands outstretched like a man reaching for heaven. “Come to me,” he murmured. I almost moved. I almost threw myself between them, even though I knew what that bond meant. Even though I knew I’d be ripped apart for it. But then she moved, and everything I thought I understood about fate died with him. Macey’s wolf lunged. The sound that followed was wet and violent. Her jaws clamped around his throat, the spray of blood bright against her white fur. For a moment, all I could do was stare.

And now she’s looking at me. The goddess–blessed wolf, Macey. The smell of iron fills the cave, sharp and thick, and her wolf lifts her head, her muzzle stained red. Every instinct I have screams to move, to fight, to run, but I can’t. I’m frozen where I kneel, chest tight and lungs burning. She takes a slow step forward, her eyes still glowing silver, watching me with an expression I can’t read. Is this her choosing me? Or is this her deciding whether I’m next? She keeps moving, careful and deliberate. Her paws are silent against the stone, her head low. When she stops in front of me, she’s close enough that I can feel the heat of her breath against my chest. My heart stumbles, a fragile thing beating inside a cage of fear and disbelief. The wolf hesitates. Then she lowers her head–bowing. I exhale a sound that’s half laugh, half sob. Her nose brushes against my hand. My fingers tremble, and I reach out, afraid that if I touch her, she’ll vanish like a dream. But she doesn’t. She presses into my palm, nuzzling harder until I have no choice but to brace myself as she pushes me onto my back. Her fur is warm against my skin, her scent wrapping around me like something holy. I can’t help it–I start laughing, and the sound cracks in my throat, splintering into a sob halfway

through.

She’s alive. She’s here. And somehow, she’s mine.

I feel it the instant it happens. That small, faint pull that’s always lived in my chest–the one I’ve tried to

ignore for months–snaps tight. It’s no longer a whisper. It’s a full–force yank, tethering me to her like

gravity itself. The light surges again, softer this time, a silvery glow that spreads between us, curling around our bodies like a blessing. She shifts smoothly. The glow fades, leaving Macey on top of me, her hair tangled, skin glowing faintly with leftover moonlight. She’s shaking, exhausted, but she’s smiling. And when

her eyes meet mine, I know the truth before she even says it.

“Mate,” she whispers.

My breath catches. I don’t know if it’s disbelief or joy or something far bigger than both.

She leans closer, her voice breaking as she adds, “My mate.”

Something deep within me answers. I can’t speak, but I don’t need to. Because then she’s moving again, closing the distance between us, her hands finding my face, her forehead resting against mine, before she kisses me. It’s not gentle. It’s everything. Every word she never said, every time she trembled in my arms after waking from nightmares, every thunderstorm she hid from in my bed. Every time I patched her wounds, every soft breath that lingered between us when neither of us dared to speak. She says it all with that one kiss. And I give everything I have left in return.

Her lips taste like blood and starlight, like the end of the world and the beginning of something better. When she finally pulls back, her hand still on my cheek, her eyes are glowing silver, and her voice is steady when she says, “You’re my soul mate, Elliot.”

The words break something in me, and remake it all at once. I pull her back into my arms, holding her like I’ll never let go, because maybe I won’t. Not in this world. Not in the next. Not ever.

Envy’s voice breaks the silence first, a slight, hiccupped sound that doesn’t fit the carnage around us. When I glance up, she’s standing beside Layah at the edge of the cavern, both of them streaked with blood and ash. Envy’s swords hang limp at her sides, her cheeks wet with tears she’s not even bothering to wipe away.

“I knew it,” she says thickly, voice trembling between a laugh and a sob. “I always knew it.”

Macey twists slightly in my arms, turning her head toward Envy, and then she starts to laugh–real, bright, exhausted laughter that bubbles out of her until it catches in my chest too. I can’t help it; I start laughing with her, the sound raw and broken but so damn alive.

Envy sniffs hard, shaking her head as she waves a hand toward us. “But I don’t want to see it–not like this.” She gestures vaguely at Macey, still naked, sprawled across me in a tangle of limbs. “Elliot, for the love of

the gods, give her your jacket or something, please.”

Macey laughs harder, burying her face against my shoulder as I groan, dragging my coat off with one hand.

“Fine,” I mutter. “But only because you asked nicely.”
