Chapter 265 Here?
The air bends before I can even ask where we’re going. Envy takes my hand, her other reaching for Elliot’s, and with a ripple of power the world folds in on itself. Shadows and starlight twist together, the bonfire’s laughter vanishing in a rush of wind and magic. For half a
heartbeat, I feel weightless. Then my boots touch earth again. The world around us is quiet. We’re standing in a vast clearing under the brightest full moon I’ve ever seen. The grass glows faintly silver, rippling in waves that hum with the pulse of something ancient. It’s beautiful here, hauntingly so, the kind of beauty that feels alive.
Elliot stands beside me, his eyes scanning the space, breath catching. “This…” he says quietly, voice almost reverent. “I know this place.”
“You should,” Envy replies, her voice soft but threaded with memory. “This is where it happened. Where Elliot and we remade the Veil.”
The words carry through the night air like a sacred confession.
I glance at her, wide–eyed. “Here?”
She nods. “Right here. We tore the world open and stitched it back together with blood and soul and love strong enough to defy the gods.” Her gaze shifts to the centre of the clearing, where two faint symbols are etched into the ground–spirals of gold and obsidian that glimmer faintly under the moonlight.
Elliot steps closer, crouching to trace a hand over one of the spirals. “I can still feel it,” he whispers. “Like a heartbeat under the soil.”
“That heartbeat,” Envy says, “is your soul. Both of ours, actually. A fragment tied to the Veil itself, so that it would live. So that death and life could find balance again.” She exhales, the sound steady but heavy with meaning.
My chest tightens. “That’s why Hecate came to me,” I murmur, the realisation settling like a sunrise behind my ribs. “She said I could
unbind you both.”
Envy smiles faintly, pride shimmering in her eyes. “Then you understand why I brought you here. This place… it’s sacred. The Veil still remembers. If you and Elliot are to mark each other, if you are to complete your bond as the gods have willed it, then it should be here. Under the same moon that witnessed its birth.”
I glance at Elliot, and he’s watching her with something like awe.
Envy steps closer, reaching up to brush a hand along my cheek, then his. “You are both my greatest miracles,” she says softly. “You’ve carried burdens that were never meant to be yours. But you did it with grace, with love, and with strength I could never have imagined.”

Her voice trembles, just slightly. “Elliot, my boy, you’ve always had a heart too big for the darkness you were born into. And Macey, my beautiful girl, you have always been the light that guides people through that darkness.”
My throat burns, and I can’t stop the tears when they come.
She smiles through hers, thumb brushing one away. “I love you both. So much.”

Here?
“We love you too,” I whisper.
She nods once, proud, steady. “Good. Because this” she gestures around us, to the moonlit clearing, the hum of magic under our feet, the wind carrying faint whispers of the Veil-“this is yours now. When you’re ready, mark each other here. Let the world witness what the gods have already written in your souls.”
Her hands glow faintly as she draws a portal into the air, a rippling veil of violet light. The breeze catches her hair as she turns toward it,
and for just a heartbeat, she looks back.
“I’ll see you both on the other side of forever,” she says gently.
And then she’s gone. The portal fades, leaving only silence and the soft thrum of magic in its wake. For a moment, neither Elliot nor I move. The moonlight spills over the clearing like liquid silver, and the faint hum of the Veil’s power rises under our feet, alive and waiting. He turns to look at me then, really look at me, and the moonlight catches in his eyes, pale and bright and filled with something
so deep it makes my chest ache.
“What happens now?” he asks.
I step closer, my heartbeat matching the rhythm of the earth. “Now,” I say softly, “we make history.”
Elliot’s gaze searches mine, the fire of a thousand unsaid things burning there.
He swallows hard, the muscles in his jaw flexing. “Do you want me to mark you… here?” he asks quietly, as if speaking the words too loudly might break whatever fragile spell the night has woven around us. “Now?”
For a moment, I just stare at him, this man who has walked through fire and shadow for me, who has carried my name on his tongue like a prayer for as long as I can remember. I take a step closer until I can feel the warmth of him, until every inch of my soul aches with how
much I want him.
When I reach up, my fingers trace along his jaw slowly and he leans into my touch like he’s been waiting his whole life for it. “Elliot,” 1
whisper.
He opens his mouth to speak, but I don’t let him. I rise onto my toes and kiss him. It’s not a gentle kiss. It’s deep, claiming, full of
years of friendship, fear, longing, and love all bleeding together. everything that’s been building between us since the moment we met His hands find my waist, trembling slightly as if he’s afraid I’ll disappear again. When I finally pull back, his forehead rests against mine, our breaths mingling.
“If you’re going to mark me,” I whisper, “it’s not going to be because you think you have to. It’s going to be while you’re making love to
me.”
His breath stutters; I can feel it against my lips.
I keep my gaze locked on his. “As your best friend,” I say softly. “Your confidant. Your lover. Your soulmate for life. When you mark me…it’s going to be while you’re able to feel every part of me.”
Elliot exhales slowly, his breath fanning over my face as his eyes close.
“Gods, Mace,” he whispers, his thumb brushing along my cheek. “You have no idea what you do to me.”
I smile faintly. “I think I do.”
Elliot’s hand slides into mine, fingers threading together. “Then let’s give it something new to remember.”
My pulse jumps. “Here?”
He nods, his eyes shining like twin stars. “Here. Where it all began.”
The moon climbs higher, silver light spilling across the clearing, the air thick with magic and promise. His thumb strokes my wrist, steady and grounding, as though he’s asking one last time if I’m sure.
I am.
Every part of me is sure.
I rise to meet his kiss again, the world falling away until there’s nothing left but us, just two souls standing in the place where the gods rewrote fate, ready to make our own history.
The symbols flare brighter on the ground as he pulls me closer, and everything inside me knows: This is the moment everything changes.
