Charlotte had originally been my stand in, and even though she was a year younger than me, our birthdays were super close–hers was literally the day before mine.
To celebrate me coming home, the Sterlings decided to throw me a birthday party.
Except here’s the kicker–they scheduled MY party for HER birthday.
In my past life, Charlotte made sure I couldn’t even attend by locking me in a bathroom.
So the family thought I was throwing some kind of tantrum about the birthday thing and decided I was just petty and embarrassing. So they gave Charlotte all the company shares that were supposed to be mine.
Now, Dad was asking me the same question he had before:
“Look, I know moving your birthday up isn’t exactly fair, but earlier is better than later, right? Can you let Charlotte have this one? Next year we’ll do separate parties p>
Before I could even answer, Charlotte started her whole routine again.
“If Sophia doesn’t want to share, I can celebrate on her day instead. I really don’t mind p>
And then came the sniffling and the trembling lip.
Marcus made this annoyed clicking sound. “Sophia, it’s literally one day earlier. Can you please stop making everything so difficult for Charlotte p>
I ignored Marcus completely and tilted my head at Dad with this innocent look.
“I never said I disagreed. I mean, no one’s ever thrown me a birthday party before anyway. I’m used to it p>
Seeing me say so, Marcus looked like he wanted to crawl under a rock.
Dad forthwith shot him a death glare. “Shut it, Marcus p>
Then Dad turned to Charlotte.
“Charlotte, honey, we’re doing it on Sophia’s day this time. Two parties back–to–back would be way too much p>
Charlotte nodded sadly, her eyes getting all watery. “Okay… I understand p>
“Good.” Dad’s tone made it clear the discussion was over. “Since Charlotte’s being so sweet about it, that’s settled. Everyone go get ready p>
As everyone scattered to prepare, Charlotte stayed behind, and her expression went ice cold the second we were alone.
“Don’t get too cocky, Sophia. This isn’t over p>
A few days later, the party was in full swing, though guests were still arriving. Charlotte suddenly appeared next to me with this fake bright smile, then “accidentally tripped over her own feet and spilled her drink all over my dress.
“ Oh my God, Sophia! I’m so sorry! Here, let me take you to the bathroom so you can change p>
I didn’t show even a hint of suspicion–just smiled and nodded. “Sure p>
As I walked into the bathroom with the outfit she’d “helpfully” brought me, Charlotte smirked behind my back. “Ha, What an idiot p>
While I was changing, I heard this loud clang and suddenly the door wouldn’t budge.
The dress I’d been wearing was gone too.
“Charlotte?” I tentatively called out.

Nothing.
I opened up the outfit she’d given me. It was a janitor’s uniform.
Even if I made it out of here, I’d be completely humiliated.
Meanwhile, all the guests had arrived and Dad grabbed the mic.
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to my daughter’s birthday party! Tonight we’re celebrating not just Charlotte’s birthday, but also my long–lost daughter Sophia’s birthday p>

“I heard the girl they found was literally living in the streets, eating garbage p>

Dad was starting to look seriously uncomfortable. He leaned over to Charlotte and whispered, “Where’s your sister p>
Charlotte still put on her most innocent face. “I haven’t seen Sophia anywhere p>
Dad’s jaw tightened, and he immediately signaled to his security team.
