Chapter 36
Chapter 9
From the moment David spilled everything. Carol went completely silent, like someone had hit her mute button.
She sat there in a daze until David collapsed on her, snapping her back to reality with a violent shudder.
“No, no, this can’t be happening. I can’t lose p>
“Aria! Pearl! So what if I lost? You didn’t win either p>
“You’re just as fake as me – I refuse to believe the Hartwell fortune will go to two outsiders p>
I laughed coldly.
“Sorry to disappoint, but I’m the Hartwell heir now, and I always will be p>
“You have no idea that Grandpa and Grandma built this empire together, or how deep our family bonds run p>
Carol glared at me with pure resentment, so I delivered the final blow.
“Actually, I should thank you. This whole mess cleared up a decades–old misunderstanding between my grandparents p>
“The truth is, Mom actually IS Grandpa’s biological daughter p>
Carol was completely stunned, shaking her head in denial.
“Why are you still lying to me? What’s the point of messing with me now p>
I smirked and reopened the paternity test report.
Carol hadn’t read the whole thing – there was another test result showing Mom and Grandpa’s relationship.
“Because Grandma’s breakup and reconciliation happened so close together, they never worried about Mom’s paternity or bothered to check p>
“The fact is, Mom really is Grandpa’s biological daughter p>
Carol tore her test results to shreds, screaming like a maniac:
“Impossible! I’m the real heiress! You’ll all bow down to me – I’M the real heiress p>
Her hair was a wild mess, looking completely unhinged.
Lily stared at her in terror, having lost her anchor, and burst into tears.
But Carol grabbed her shoulders, shaking her violently.
“Lily, I’m the real heiress! You’re a billionaire’s daughter! We’re set for life p>
She kept muttering to herself. That’s when I realized Carol had been secretly stalking Mom’s every move for who knows how long.
She’d been living in this fantasy where she was the real heiress, brainwashing herself until she actually believed it. No wonder she’d been so confident coming here to scam us.
I couldn’t be bothered analyzing such pathetic behavior any further. I handed all three of them over to the police.
During the police investigation, even more secrets came to light.
Turns out David had prepared a third contingency plan.
He’d secretly transferred all their family assets to overseas accounts, ready to flee the country if their scheme failed.

But now all his backup plans had crumbled.
After his arrest, the company immediately fired him and pursued full damages.
As for Carol and Lily, their crimes were minor enough to avoid jail time.
But their shopping spree had left them drowning in debt.
Now they were broke and homeless, without even a place to sleep.
Carol’s mental state had completely deteriorated. One day as I was leaving the office, I spotted two figures by the front gate.
It was Carol, hair wild and matted, screaming:
“I’m the Hartwell heiress! This is MY company p>
Lily was beside her, desperately trying to drag her away.
“Mom, stop it! Do you want to embarrass us even more? She can’t even hear you p>
I didn’t slow my pace, just told security to keep an eye on things and walked straight past.
It was just a minor episode in life, soon to be swept away by the wind.
The road ahead was wide and bright, and my steps would never falter.
