Chapter 62
Chapter 8
When Mom was discharged from the hospital, I was the only one who showed up to get her.
Dad and Brayden didn’t care.
And Lila? Forget it.
But the moment Mom got in the car, she barked at the driver to take us to Lila’s place.
Because, of course, Lila was all she cared about.
We rang the doorbell a few times–no answer.
So Mom pulled out a spare key and unlocked the door.
The sight in the living room nearly made her faint.
Even I froze.
Lila really would sell her soul for money.
She lay sprawled on the cold floor, eyes glassy.
Beside her hair were scattered piles of metal scraps – screws, nails, hooks…
She picked them up one by one and shoved them into her mouth, chewing.
She wore a short skirt, her pale thighs covered in angry red welts. Official source is.net
Mom collapsed beside her, grabbing her wrists.
“Lila, what the hell are you doing p>
“Have you lost your mind p>
Lila’s brow furrowed. She ripped free with a violent jerk.
“I’m building tolerance p>
“Don’t get in my way p>
Mom fell hard, scrambled back up, trembling.
And then–she turned and slapped me.
I just stood there, stunned.
My cheek burned hot, throbbing.
She pointed a shaking finger right between my eyes.
“Ever since you gave her this damn house, nothing but bad things have happened p>
“You cursed her, didn’t you?! You poisoned your own sister p>
I almost laughed.
I was the only one who gave a damn about her.
The only one who took care of her.

The house was something they begged for.
And yet, in her eyes, I was the monster.
I didn’t argue. Just dropped my hand and smiled.
“Mom, I’ve always treated you well. If you want to accuse me, there’s nothing I can say p>
Right on cue, Lila’s icy voice cut in from the floor.
“Shut up already. You’re messing with my money p>
“God, you old hag, you’re unbearable p>
Mom’s eyes shattered like glass.
Dog against dog.
And me?
I couldn’t be happier.
