At Yvonne’s command, the Ocean City branch head, Westin, immediately stepped forward,
“Ms. Yvonne, how many people should we take?”
“Leave some behind to protect Dr. Johnson’s wife. The rest come with me. My brother might be in trouble.”
The moment Westin heard it was Mr. Baron in danger, he rushed to mobilize the men.
Natalie didn’t understand why Baron had stayed silent behind her, but she trusted that he was already working on some kind of plan.
She didn’t fully grasp his ways, but instinct told her he wouldn’t abandon her.
That trust had no basis, no evidence–just a feeling. Yet it was enough to steady her heart. Even facing the black–clad men before her, she felt no fear at all.
The leader of the group, masked and unreadable, fixed his cold eyes on her when she spoke. The chill of that gaze made Natalie’s chest tighten in unease.
“Ms. Stone, please come with us.”
“And who exactly are you? I don’t even know you. Why should I go anywhere with you?”
Natalie’s tone held no fear.
The masked leader frowned.
“Ms. Stone, we didn’t come all this way to let you slip away. If you cooperate, we’ll treat you with respect. But if you resist–don’t blame us for using force.”
Before his words could settle, Jensen stormed out from inside.
“What are you doing here? I’m Jensen, president of Luke Corp. She’s my friend. If you dare lay a hand on her, don’t blame the Luke family for retaliating. In all of Ocean City, there’s nothing we don’t dare to do.”
He positioned himself like a guardian before Natalie, though he couldn’t resist throwing a glance at Baron.
Seeing Baron still fiddling with his phone even now, Jensen’s blood boiled.

“Baron, are you even a man? Natalie’s being surrounded and threatened, and you’re still glued to your phone? Do you even care about her, or are you just eyeing the Stone family’s fortune? Waiting for her to get hurt so you can inherit it? Are these people yours?”
It was a vicious blow–aimed straight at the heart.
Baron, tired of his constant needling, finally spoke.
“Jensen, are you brain–dead? I’ve got no money, no power, no connections. Where would I find people to trouble my wife? My feelings for her are clear as day. But you–if you’re really that capable, then hurry up and make them leave. What’s stopping you?”
So, he wanted to stir the pot? Baron could play that game too.
He shot Jensen a look of open challenge even as his mind raced.
Yvonne and Westin’s reinforcements would take time to arrive. Chris was missing, and whether he was safe or not, Baron couldn’t know. Alone, he could fight–but not without risking Natalie’s safety.
These men carried the aura of professionals, likely foreign mercenaries. Baron recognized it all too well.
If they truly were mercenaries, the safest choice was to stall. When Yvonne and the others arrived, then he could strike.
For now, with Jensen standing there so eager to act the hero, Baron had no qualms about letting him soak up the fire.
Jensen mistook his silence for cowardice, his lip curling in disdain.
“Baron, you really are spineless.”
With that, he stepped forward to block Natalie with his body.
“Natalie, don’t be afraid. With me here, no one will take you.”
His arm–recently set back in place–still throbbed with pain, but he ignored it. Natalie looked at his posturing, ready to speak, but Baron tugged her hand lightly.
She glanced at him, saw him shake his head, and immediately swallowed her words.
As long as she followed Baron, she knew she wouldn’t be wrong.

She bit back her reply and quietly stepped back, moving closer to him.
Jensen noticed her silence and felt a rush of joy.
So she didn’t reject him after all. That meant she still cared.
Of course–Baron was useless here. Only he could protect her.
