The masked man, slapped down by the rebuke, couldn’t bear it–he swung his baton at Baron.
In his mind, Baron had seemed compliant from the start–pathetic, the sort who would never resist. Now this weak man dared to challenge him? It was suicide.
Jensen heard the whoosh of the club through the air and brightened. If these men take Baron out for me, Natalie will be mine again.
Natalie’s voice trembled with worry. “Baron, be careful!”
She tried to step forward but hands held her tight. “Stay still!” someone hissed.
Everyone waiting for the show assumed the masked man would teach this supposed cowardly son–in–law a lesson. They hadn’t expected the baton to be stopped before it fell–Baron had already driven his foot into the man below the belt.
“Aaah-”
The masked man howled. The onlookers froze for a beat.
Jensen, blindfolded and gloating, thought it was Baron and couldn’t help a cruel remark. “Serves you right. Shut your mouth.”
The thug’s face soured. The leader, though ordered not to kill Jensen, could still slap him–and he did. A heavy backhand cracked across Jensen’s cheek.
“Shut up! If you keep mouthing off I’ll kill you.”
Jensen, used to flattery his whole life, felt humiliated; his chest heaved with fury, but he dared not speak further. Survival came first.
Baron didn’t stop after the low kick. He spun, found his target by sound, and drove a follow- through into the man’s chest that sent him flying.
“Beat him–get him!” the leader barked, stung by the insult to his authority.
All the masked men surged on Baron.
Natalie’s heart leapt. “Baron, be careful.”
“Don’t move!” one of them snapped at her.

At some point Baron had loosened the tape on his hands and ripped off his blindfold; he launched into combat against the attackers. Natalie felt the tape binding her own hands. slacken. She remembered Baron drifting closer on the car–that must’ve been when he started to free her.
She wrenched the rest of the binding away and tore off her blindfold, eyes snapping to Baron.
He had loosened his tie with one hand; the ivory shirt clung to the tightening muscles. When five black–clad shadows lunged simultaneously, he spun and struck the lead assailant’s throat- there was a crack of breaking cartilage and a collapsing body with the sound of rain pounding the roof.
A second man thrust a dagger to the ribs; Baron caught the wrist, twisted it back, and blood beaded and ran into the sleeve, darkening the fine fabric.
A third was tripped and caught by a scarf flung from his own jacket; he choked and swung a steel baton at Baron’s head, but Baron arched back, the sinew of his waist cutting a breath- taking curve.
It was a spectacle to behold.
Natalie had known Baron was capable, but she had never seen him like this–up close, in motion. Even through his shirt she could feel the powerful life in his muscles.
This is my man, she thought, awed.
By contrast, Jensen–blindfolded and flailing–sounded like a headless fly, trying to identify the fight by ears alone.
There was no comparison between Jensen and Baron.
Natalie loved the Baron she was seeing, but she knew it wasn’t time to swoon. While the attackers‘ attention was on Baron, she sprinted toward the one man who had been guarding her and Jensen. He had been distracted by the fight; he clearly underestimated them—after all, this was their turf.
Natalie had spotted the phone on his waist. If she could snatch it, she could call for help or alert her parents–there might be a chance for rescue.
She dove. Content originally comes from
The guard sensed movement and glanced up; Natalie was on him before he finished the motion. She didn’t know exactly what to do–only that she had to act–and she mimicked Baron’s moves. She threw her fist at his face.

The guard did not expect a supposedly helpless woman to strike. Momentarily stunned, he lashed out with a backhand.
“Fuck! Do you want to die, woman?” he snarled.
