When Baron reached the station, Yvonne was outside, pacing with her phone clutched tight. Natalie was nowhere in sight.
“Yvonne. Where’s my wife?”
Baron didn’t even close the car door–he sprinted straight over.
Yvonne’s eyes went red the moment she saw him. “Baron… they took Natalie.”
Baron’s face turned to stone. “What did you say? Wasn’t she only here to give a statement?”
“She was,” Yvonne stammered. “At first, it was routine–questions, nothing unusual. Then the officer got a call. After that, everything changed. He said Natalie was tied to a murder case, that the evidence was conclusive. They dragged her away and threw the rest of us out.”
Her voice broke. “I wanted to fight them for her, but she told me not to–said it was better if one of us got out. She told me to call you. But I couldn’t reach you, and Chris has nothing. I sent people to the Stone family estate to alert your in–laws, but no word back yet. I’ve burned through every contact I have, Baron–nobody’s answering. What do we do?”
Baron’s expression darkened further.
A murder case?
Natalie had been the victim, kidnapped and nearly killed. And now they twisted it, framing her as the criminal.
That phone call–that was the hand behind the curtain. Whoever it was, their reach ran deeper than he’d expected.
“How long has she been gone?” His voice was ice.
“More than an hour.”
Baron’s chest tightened. He shouldn’t have wasted time operating on Jensen. Even if Natalie had begged him, he shouldn’t have left her vulnerable for Jensen’s sake.
Jensen’s life was already owed to Natalie–five years ago, she had given him that chance to keep breathing. If he’d died now, paying that debt back, it would’ve been fitting.
But Baron had relented. He’d intervened. And because of that weakness, Natalie was in danger.

Yvonne stood silent, too shaken to interrupt the storm radiating off him. His killing aura was so thick it made the night air feel like ice.
He wanted nothing more than to storm inside, rip the walls apart, and drag Natalie out. But he knew he couldn’t..
This wasn’t Murica.
If he smashed through now, Natalie would be branded an outlaw alongside him. They’d be forced to flee forever, hunted, running. That wasn’t the life she wanted–and it wasn’t the life he would give her.
He forced himself to breathe, to think.
Finally, he spoke. “Go back to the Stone estate. Tell my father- and mother–in–law directly. I don’t trust the messengers got through.”
“Alright.” Yvonne nodded, then hesitated. “But what about you? She told me to tell you+no matter what, don’t go in guns blazing.”
Baron’s heart twisted at the thought of Natalie worrying about him even while in chains. His wife was thinking of him, and he… he had wasted time on Jensen.
He clenched his jaw. “Don’t worry. I won’t break in. Don’t forget–I’m not just Baron. I’m also Witch Doctor. And there isn’t a soul in this system who doesn’t need something from Witch Doctor.”
The words settled Yvonne’s panic. “Then I’ll go. I’ll bring her parents. But you’re right–on the way, they’ll try to stop me. I’ll cut down anyone who gets in my way.”
“Good.” Baron gave a curt nod.
When Yvonne disappeared down the street, his eyes narrowed to slits.
He pulled out his phone, logging into the underworld’s darkest network.
Sure enough–someone was looking for Witch Doctor.
He opened the file. The moment he saw the details, he knew. He’d found the thread.
Hold on, Natalie. Just hold on.

He accepted the job with a single click, adding one demand: the client would meet him face- to–face, at a location of his choosing.
On the other end, the target nearly wept with relief. Witch Doctor had answered. That meant everything he said would now be law.
