Rio glanced at the black–clad men surrounding him. Their movements, their bearing–this was no ordinary group of bodyguards. Their aura was lethal, disciplined, a battlefield chill that made him nod solemnly.
“Understood. I’ll be in your care.”
As they sped toward the airport, Jensen too received an invitation.
He stood at once, striding forward. “Hansel, bring every liquid asset Luke Corp can mobilize.”
Hansel hesitated. “Mr. Jensen, the shareholders will never approve-”
“Do you think I care about their approval at a time like this? Move!”
Hansel flinched at his fury and scrambled to obey. Soon, the two of them were racing toward the airport, carrying the company’s funds.
But Loretta also caught wind of it.
When she heard Jensen had emptied Luke Corp’s reserves, she erupted.
“That unfilial son! Is he insane? For a woman, he wants to throw away the Luke family? If he loves Natalie so much, what was he doing the past five years? Now he wants to play tragic lover —fine, but he should know his limits! Go! Drag him back. I won’t let him ruin the Luke family like this!”
She stormed about the room, seething.
The high seas–did he really think he could walk into that den of wolves as a mere businessman? If anything happened to him, all her years of plotting would go to waste.
Snatching up her phone, she dialed a number.
“Jensen is going to the high seas to die. Are you going to do something about it or not?”
Only after speaking did she notice the servants in the room. Covering the phone, she barked, “Out! All of you! Until I say otherwise, no one sets foot in this room.”
Lucy, the housekeeper, understood. Loretta wanted privacy. She ushered everyone out, shut the doors herself, and withdrew.
She had served the Luke family long enough to know Loretta kept secrets. Dangerous ones.

The wise survived by keeping clear of them.
With the room secured, Loretta exhaled.
Meanwhile, Rachel lay in the hospital.

She had eaten drugged food, a ploy to divert suspicion, only for Flynn to send her for a full checkup. Given her long record with the Stone family, it wasn’t unreasonable. But until the results came, she couldn’t leave. She was annoyed, but she couldn’t afford to tear her mask- after all, the Stones insisted it was for her safety.
She burned with the need to know what was happening with the Stone family. Was Natalie dead or alive?
She reached for her phone–only to remember it hadn’t come with her when she fainted. Of
course.
But Rachel always left herself a back door. She had another SIM card, one only a select few knew of–Anna among them. Hidden where no one would ever search, it had gone undetected.
At last, she borrowed a phone and slotted the card in. Before she could even call Anna, Loretta’s number lit the screen. And Loretta’s first words exploded like a bomb.
Rachel nearly dropped the phone.
“What did you say? The high seas? You let him go to the high seas? Are you insane, old woman? What business does a businessman have there? Do you know the kind of people who gather in that place?” Read complete version only at
Her voice rose to a sharp pitch.
Loretta, already fuming, snapped back.
“Let him? Do you think I wanted this? He insisted! After Natalie’s abduction, he nearly died trying to save her. The Witch Doctor patched him up, but his left hand is crippled now, weak as a child’s. It isn’t healed–and yet, the moment he learned Natalie was at that auction, he went mad. He cleaned out every cent of Luke Corp’s liquid assets and ran for the airport without a second thought. Tell me, Rachel, isn’t he throwing away both his life and our fortune? Where do you think he got this lovesick brain from?”
Her voice cracked with rage and despair. If Jensen lost the family fortune, the shareholders would tear him down from the president’s seat. And then–what would all her years of scheming have been for?

Rachel, however, froze at Loretta’s words.
