Chapter 424 Baron the Accidental Villain
She instinctively lifted her hand and caught Baron’s, her voice dazed and soft. “What are you doing?”
Baron’s eyes flew wide. The instant he saw Natalie looking at him, emotion surged through
him.
“Baby, you’re awake? Thank God–you were out so long I thought I’d lose my mind!”
He pulled her into a tight embrace.

The familiar warmth of his body and the faint scent of him made Natalie realize–she’d been rescued.
She was off that ship; she was safe.
But before she could feel relieved, a sharp sting spread across her face.
Remembering the strange scene she’d woken to, Natalie frowned slightly.
She gently pushed Baron away and glanced down at his hand.
Seeing the egg he was holding, she blinked in disbelief.
Baron felt her stare and suddenly panicked, rushing to explain.
“Wait, baby, listen–it’s not what you think, I was just-”
“Baron, did you hit me?”
He nearly choked on his own breath.
“I didn’t-”
“You hit me to wake me up, didn’t you?”
Once again, he was speechless.
Her eyes were too clear, too open; there wasn’t a trace of anger in them, and that somehow
made his chest ache.
“Sweetheart, just… let me talk first, okay?”

He sat down beside her.
Natalie nodded, took the egg from his hand, and rolled it over her own cheek.
And honestly–it felt nice.
Baron couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight.

“You really are something. Aren’t you even curious why we’re not at the Stone family villa?”
His words made Natalie pause.
“You’re right–why aren’t we home? And what about Beth’s son–was he found? What happened to those men in black? Did you figure out who was behind all this?”
Her questions tumbled out one after another, leaving Baron looking utterly defeated. Doesn’t ask for hours, and then, ten questions at once. Where do I even start?
Natalie tilted her head, still rolling the egg across her cheek, watching him with a pure, expectant expression that made his heart soften completely.
He reached out and smoothed her hair, then gently took the egg back, rolling it for her as he began, “Those marks on your face were from Rachel. It’s my fault—I didn’t stop her in time. But don’t worry, I made her pay for it… tenfold.”
He went on to tell her everything that had happened since leaving Ocevaris–including how she’d been poisoned with Velvet Sleep.
When he finished, Natalie’s brows knit tightly together.
“Why would they go that far? And Rachel–what was she even after?”
“We’ll find out,” Baron said calmly. “Shauna’s interrogating her now. We’ll have answers soon. As for the rest, we’ll investigate step by step. But first, once we’re back in Ocean City, you need a full medical exam. I don’t want to miss anything.”
He sounded firm–almost anxious.
Natalie nodded slowly.
Then she tilted her head, studying him with quiet suspicion; something in her gaze made his chest tighten.
“Baby… why are you looking at me like that?”

Natalie asked softly, “How do you even know about Velvet Sleep?”

“I don’t,” he said quickly. “Beth told me. We actually owe her for that–I promised I’d have the Witch Doctor treat her son in return. He’s already been taken to Central Hospital for
emergency care.”
He blurted the words out in a rush.
Natalie nodded but didn’t drop it. “You say you didn’t know what Velvet Sleep was, yet you could counteract it. Baron, are you hiding something from me?”
Her question made his heart skip a beat.

He’d never told her about his other identity–as the Witch Doctor himself.
Back then, he’d worried she’d hate the man. After all, five years ago, when she’d gone begging the Witch Doctor to save Jensen, that man had made things very difficult for her.
Baron feared that if she learned he was that man, she’d think he’d deceived her.
Later, when he’d wanted to tell her, there was always something in the way–some crisis that pushed it aside. Original content can be found at.net
Now, looking into her searching eyes, Baron drew in a deep breath. He’d made up his mind.
“Baby, actually, I’m-”
“I know,” Natalie interrupted gently. “You’ve always been close with the Witch Doctor; I’m sure you’ve picked up a lot of his medical knowledge over the years. Honestly, if you hadn’t given me that antidote powder, I probably would’ve lost myself completely on that ship.”
Baron froze mid–sentence, caught between relief and exasperation.
“That’s not it, baby–what I mean is, I actually…”
