“That’s right, boss–it’s them! That old man had someone hit me; my stomach still hurts,” Ben whined, clutching his abdomen in exaggerated pain.
Natalie had seen shameless people before, but this –this was a new level.
She opened her mouth to speak, but Baron stopped her.
“Let’s see what Dad does first.” Updates are released by
Though uneasy, Natalie nodded. Waylon turned toward the security captain, studying the unfamiliar face. It had been so many years since he’d last returned; no wonder everything here -people, rules, the very air–felt different.
“You’re the head of security?” Waylon asked evenly.
The man nodded. “That’s right, I’m the captain. Old man, this is the Stone residence. Ever heard of the Stone family? They’re internationally famous. You show up here making trouble -are you tired of living?”
Waylon’s gaze remained calm and steady. “Why don’t you call your master,” he said coldly, “and tell him Waylon has returned.”
“Who?” The captain scratched his ear, then let out a bark of laughter.
“Do you even know who Waylon is, old man? You’ve got guts pretending to be him! I’ll have you know–not only am I the head of security here, my brother–in–law is the owner of this place. So if you’re gonna pretend to be the head of the Stone family in front of me, you really don’t know what’s good for you.”
Waylon, Natalie, and Baron all froze for a second.
“Your brother–in–law?” Waylon asked slowly. “Your brother–in–law is the owner of this place?”
“Of course,” the man said proudly, puffing out his chest.
Waylon’s eyes darkened. “Your brother–in–law–is his name Alden?”
After all, Alden had been the one overseeing the Stone residence all these years. The captain blinked, then sneered.
“Alden? That useless piece of trash? He’s lucky my brother–in–law lets him keep breathing. That’s already mercy enough.”

Natalie, Waylon, and Baron exchanged glances. There was something deeply wrong here.
Waylon continued, his tone deceptively mild. “If I recall correctly, the Stone residence was entrusted to Alden. But you’re calling him useless. Are you saying there’s someone more powerful than him now?”
“Of course there is! What’s Alden compared to my brother–in–law’s father, Logan? When the Stone family’s old head gave him management rights, Alden was just a kid. He couldn’t manage anything! So of course my brother–in–law’s father–Alden’s own father, Logan–took over.”
Waylon’s brows furrowed tightly.
Logan? He’d never heard of anyone named Logan.
“Oh?” he said slowly. “So Logan has been running the Stone residence all these years, has he?”
A flash of cold light flickered in his eyes.
The security captain didn’t notice; he grinned smugly. “That’s right! My brother–in–law’s dad is the real boss here. Old man, let me tell you–while the Stone family’s head is away, my brother–in–law’s father is king around here! So if you know what’s good for you, get lost. No- wait. You injured Ben. Pay up first. Let’s call it a million for medical fees. Judging by your clothes and your car, you don’t look poor. A million’s not much, right?”
Waylon actually laughed, a sharp, incredulous sound.
“Oh? You can tell by our car and clothes that we’re not poor?”
“Of course! That car alone’s worth a few million. Asking for one million in compensation is more than fair.”
Natalie’s face tightened with anger, but Waylon smiled faintly.
“Fine,” he said. “Just one million, right? I can give you that.”
“Really?” The captain’s eyes gleamed with greed, and Ben’s face lit up too, as if they could already feel the money in their hands.
“Cash or check?” the captain asked eagerly. “Give me the money now, and we’ll forget about the what you did. Otherwise, you’re not leaving here alive.”
A flicker of regret crossed his face almost immediately. The old man had agreed too fast.

Should I have asked for more?

Waylon caught the greedy glint in his eyes and sneered.
“I’ll give you five million,” he said softly, “if you let me in.”
Money had never been an issue for the Stones; they had more than enough.

But whether this fool would live long enough to spend the money–that was another story.
Right now, Waylon’s only goal was to enter the residence without unnecessary bloodshed and see what was really going on inside.
The captain’s eyes went wide at the mention of five million, but when Waylon said he wanted to go in, his expression tightened.
“No way! Normally, maybe I’d let you walk around for that much–but not today. The master’s home. No one goes in.”
Natalie and Baron exchanged a quick look. The master? Could it be Logan?
But if Logan had taken control of the Stone residence… how had he crossed paths with Yvonne?
