The room was electrified.
Everyone knew Charles had a family and was renowned for his integrity and fidelity. Yet, this was the first time he had ever been seen so intimate with another woman in public.
Speculations flew about Dahlia’s attire, with whispers suggesting she might be the elusive Mrs. Jenkins.
“Come to think of it, Dahlia and Mr. Jenkins’ silhouettes do remind me of the back view from the photo leaked a month ago when Mr. Jenkins rented out Disneyland for his daughter’s birthday.”
This mention brought Evelyn back to the day of her daughter’s cremation, her gaze towards Charles turning even colder.
Then, the presenter spoke again. “Next, we have the honor of having Mr. Brooks, the CEO of Robinson Group, to present the award to our second-place winner, Ms. Evelyn.”
Brooks’ name stirred the crowd once more.
The Robinson family, like the Jenkins, was a century-old dynasty in the Capital. Brooks was the current leader of the family. He and Charles were considered the most distinguished men of their generation among the Capital’s elite families. As murmurs filled the air, Evelyn’s eyes followed the spotlight to see a tall, attractive man in a dark grey suit gently standing up.
His features were sharp, exuding an aura of authority. He walked up the stage and accepted the trophy from the presenter with a nod, maintaining a reserved demeanor.
However, when he approached Evelyn, his aloofness vanished, replaced by a slight smile. “Congratulations.”
“Thank you,” Evelyn’s cold facade melted into a sincere smile as she took the trophy.
During the photo session, they stood side by side, a match in grace and appearance that stirred excitement backstage.
Charles was clearly there for Dahlia. Could Brooks be here for Evelyn?
Charles heard the backstage chatter and witnessed Evelyn smile at Brooks and Brooks’ special attention to her. His expression darkened instantly.
The presenter continued with the ceremony.
“Lastly, we invite Ms. Christy, the lead designer of Carlisle Jewels, to present the award to our third-place winner, Ms. Grace.”
Christy stepped up and presented the award to Grace. After the presentation, she turned to Dahlia. “Welcome to Carlisle Jewels. Good luck.”
Dahlia immediately grasped Christy’
hand, basking in her unique moment of glory, “I’m honored to join Carlisle Jewels and to be your apprentice. I look forward to learning from you.”
Winning the competition meant not only receiving the one million dollar prize money but, more importantly, an entry ticket to Carlisle Jewels as Christy’ apprentice. Christy’ mentor was Taylor, the founder of Carlisle Jewels and a globally renowned genius designer. Her designs were adored by ladies and socialites worldwide.
Taylor’s extensive network spanned the military, politics, business, and even international royalty. Being favored by Taylor and becoming her apprentice essentially meant access to these influential networks, which was exactly what Patrick valued.
“Your design is impressive. I have high hopes for you. Keep it up,” Christy said, glancing at Charles and offering Dahlia polite encouragement. Dahlia was overjoyed. “Thank you. I’ll do my best.”
What did it matter if Evelyn was more talented or if her designs were superior? Dahlia was the winner, and she was joining Carlisle Jewels!
