Chapter 73

Dahlia tailed her inside, and as soon as the door clicked shut, her demeanor shifted completely. Her cheerful smile vanished and was replaced by a stormy expression as she glared at Evelyn, recalling the previous night with a face that could curdle milk. Last night, when she called Charles, the sound of his labored breathing, thick with desire, was unmistakable over the phone. He was wound tighter than a bowstring, ready to snap. She’d interrupted him using Sandy as an excuse, leaving him high and dry. An unsatisfied man, with just a nudge, could turn into a wolf. So, she had slipped into a provocative nightgown beneath her clothes, planning to stir things up.
Charles had brought a doctor to check on Sandy to ensure she was alright. Once the doctor left, Dahlia feigned worry over Sandy. She was standing there in a nearly see-through nightgown before Charles and acted oblivious to her loosened belt. Confident in her allure, she believed no man could resist her, least of all Charles, who was already on edge. But instead of reacting, Charles merely glanced away, focusing on Sandy, and said in a low voice, “You’ll catch a cold in that.”
Dahlia couldn’t wrap her head around it-Charles clearly loved her, yet he never made a move. But when he’s with Evelyn… The thought drove Dahlia into a jealous rage.
“Evelyn, you know Charles loves me, yet you keep throwing yourself at him. How can you be so shameless?” she fumed.
Evelyn’s face darkened, and she unexpectedly raised her hand. Remembering past encounters, Dahlia flinched, shielding her face. Unexpectedly, Evelyn didn’t slap her. Instead, she placed the magazine back on the shelf and stared calmly at the enraged Dahlia, tauntingly saying, “What now? Feeling cornered like an animal?”
Hitting a sore spot, Dahlia instinctively retorted, “Why would I be desperate…”
But in the next second, she realized what she had just admitted that she was the animal!
“Evelyn, how dare you call me an animal!”
Furious, Dahlia’s eyes were wide with anger as she lifted her hand to slap Evelyn across the face.
Evelyn caught her wrist with a grip like steel, her eyes suddenly fierce. In that moment of Dahlia’s hesitation, Evelyn pinned her against the bookshelf, her gaze icy as she said, “Did I call you an animal? You

Dahlia seethed, her chest heaving as she struggled. “Let go of me!”
In order not to escalate things, Evelyn released her grip. She gave Dahlia a cold stare before returning to her tasks. Dahlia’s eyes burned with anger as she stumbled back, trying to put some distance between them.

Before Dahlia could finish, Evelyn hurled the magazine, smacking Dahlia right on the mouth.
“Evelyn!” Dahlia yelped, tears springing to her eyes from the pain.
Evelyn advanced on her, eyes cold as ice, and Dantia retreated. Picking up the fallen magazine, Evelyn sneered, “Don’t worry, Dahlia. Grandma’s in top shape! Dr. Nelson checked her yesterday; she’s easily got a couple more decades in her. As for you, you’ll be past your prime by then. Do you really think Charles will still want you?”
