“Honestly, with what Dahlia did, Eve was way too soft on her.”
Before Evelyn could fire back, Brooks strolled in from outside. He made a beeline for Evelyn, taking her hand and standing shoulder to shoulder with her, matching Charles and Dahlia’s icy stare with one of his own.
Charles couldn’t help but notice their intertwined hands, and you could just see the storm brewing in his eyes.
Ignoring Charles completely, Brooks turned to Evelyn and said softly, “It’s getting late, let’s head out.” He was being deliberately vague, not saying he’d take her home, but suggesting they both leave together.
Charles’s face darkened even more, jealousy practically oozing from him. “Who said you could leave?”
With just a look, he signaled his bodyguard, who stepped up to block Evelyn and Brooks.
Evelyn looked up at Charles with a cold, mocking smile, “Charles, who do you think you are? Do I really need your say-so to leave?”
Dahlia, watching Evelyn’s defiance, was practically fuming, her chest heaving with anger. With a pitiful expression, she tugged at Charles, her voice trembling with tears, “Charles, take me to the hospital. I want to get checked out.”
“I’m in so much pain,” she whimpered, clutching her stomach, her lips pale from the supposed agony. Honestly, she looked like she might actually have some internal injuries.
Charles’s face shifted. If Evelyn really had hurt Dahlia that badly… He couldn’t wait around. He scooped Dahlia up from the wheelchair and hurried out.
As she leaned on Charles’s shoulder, Dahlia shot a look back at Evelyn, mouthing, ” make you pay for this!” Two years ago, Evelyn had caused her injury, something she hadn’t yet settled. Today, Evelyn dared to attack her again. Dahlia sure wasn’t planning to let her get away with it this time.
Evelyn caught Dahlia’s glare and just smirked, like she was saying, “Bring it on.”
At the hospital, Charles rushed Dahlia into the ER, worry etched all over his face. Inside, Dahlia told the doctor, “I need an injury report.”
She was worried Charles might let Evelyn off the hook because of that little brat Charlie’s death. To make sure everything went her way, she kept her plan under wraps from Charles. No way was she letting Evelyn off easy. Evelyn hit her hard, and even if it wasn’t life-threatening, it definitely left a mark. As soon as she got the report, she’d call the cops. Even a minor injury could land Evelyn in jail. By the time Evelyn got out, she’d be married to Charles. Dahlia was wheeled out of the ER. The doctor followed with the injury report, handing it to Charles. “Mr. Jenkins, here’s Ms. Dahlia’s injury report.”
