Chapter 463
Once she was out of the room, Evangeline realized how absurd her reaction was.
She and Finn were officially a couple. He had been seriously injured, and she had kissed him out of worry and gratitude. That shouldn’t have been a big deal.
Besides, it was just a kiss. They weren’t doing anything outrageous. Why was she so embarrassed? It made it seem like they were having some secret affair.
With that thought, her embarrassment subsided a little, though her face was still faintly flushed.
Meanwhile, on an upper floor of the hospital.
Soren stood by the window, an icy aura surrounding him.
His mind was consumed by what Evangeline had said yesterday about her child. One unsettling thought after another left him restless.
There was still no news from Gregory.
But just the thought of Evangeline possibly having Finn’s child was enough to drive him mad. Yet, he couldn’t stop thinking about it. If Evangeline really was pregnant with Finn’s child, what would he do?
The Fawkes family would never accept her having a child with an outsider.
And neither could he.
But he also couldn’t accept the image of her one day standing by Finn’s side, holding their child, as Finn’s woman.
Soren closed his eyes and took another sip of the strong liquor in his glass. The fiery liquid burned its way down his throat, leaving an indescribable sensation.
When he opened his eyes again, he saw a familiar figure in the distance.
“Evangeline?” Soren murmured, stunned.
Evangeline was holding an insulated food flask, walking toward his building. Her cheeks were slightly flushed, and her steps were light.
She seemed to be in a good mood.
She was at the hospital…
Had her conscience finally kicked in? Was she here to see him?
At the thought, Soren’s previously agitated mood was inexplicably soothed.
He glanced down at his hospital gown, then at the glass of liquor in his hand, its faint aroma lingering in the air.
Soren calculated the time, quickly drew the curtains, and swiftly changed into a suit.
There was no cologne in the room, so Soren had his bodyguard borrow a bottle. He sprayed a pump onto himself.
Finally, he stood before the mirror, examining himself repeatedly to ensure he looked impeccable. Only then did he sit on the bed and open the door to his room content
Just then, Evangeline got off the elevator and entered the hallway.
Soren wasn’t sure when he had become able to recognize the sound of Evangeline’s footsteps. Amid the clatter of other feet, he could pick hers out clearly. He heard her walk past his room her, shadow flirting by the window, then approaching his door…
As soon as he was sure her silhouette was at his doorway, Soren lowered his head
and pretended to focus on his laptop screen.
Soren counted the seconds.
Soon, someone stopped at his door.
Soren kept his head down. After half a minute with no sound from the doorway, he
frowned, growing impatient, and finally looked up.
But the sight of the person standing there made his face darken instantly.
It wasn’t Evangeline.
It was Gregory.
“Where’s Evangeline?” Soren demanded.
Gregory looked baffled. “Miss Whitmore just walked past here. I was about to say
hello, but I don’t think she saw me.”
Soren closed his eyes.
Gregory continued, “Miss Whitmore
went to the room at the end of the
hall, heard Mr.
inn was injured and hospitalized last night.” .net>
Soren laughed, but it was out of pure anger.
