Chapter 471
“I get airsick. The last thing I want to do is endure another five-hour bumpy flight to this place in a month.”
“Me neither.”
The group deliberately spoke in a difficult dialect of German.
Richard strained to understand. Hearing their complaints, he felt a surge of irritation, but he kept a smile plastered on his face.
He had just been promoted to this position and knew that his subordinates, resentful of his nationality, had banded together to oppose and ostracize him.
“You’ve all worked hard,” he said warmly. “Let me treat you to some of the local specialties here.”
Their expressions softened slightly at the offer.
Richard pulled out his phone and ordered two cars. As they waited, an extended executive van drove past them, stopping a short distance away.
Several men and women in sharp business suits, all with foreign faces, stepped out of the van.
When Richard saw the woman in the center of the group, he froze.
It was Cindy, the Head of Business Development for L.L., a global leader in the tech industry. He had approached her numerous times seeking a partnership, only to be rejected every time.
What were they doing here?
Richard was debating whether to go over and say hello when the cars he’d ordered arrived. His subordinates were already laughing and climbing into the vehicles.
Cindy, without a backward glance, led her team into the building.
Seeing this, Richard could only give up on the idea with a sigh of regret and got into the car.
He figured they were likely in the country to explore collaborations and would probably be here for a while. Since he was also scheduled to stay for some time, he decided he could look up their itinerary later and pay them a proper visit.
Back in the UME conference room, Theo was still in a daze long after Glenn had signed the contract and their new partners had left the building.
He clutched the document, staring at Evangeline in disbelief. “That big deal you mentioned… it was real?”
Evangeline tapped the last page,
where the red seal was still drying
“If you believe it,” she said with
a smile, “you can have a lawyer verify its authenticity.” Content”
She wasn’t very familiar with the international market.
But the moment their visitors had arrived, the surprise on Theo and Glenn’s faces had been obvious. Theo in particular, had been solicitoust almost made he uncomfortable.
She’d done her research on the company before they arrived and knew they were a big name overseas. Seeing Glenn and Theo’s: reactions she felt confident that this deal was solid.
“Evangeline, you’re a genius!”
Overcome with emotion, Theo’s eyes reddened as he rushed forward to hug her.
Although they were still a long way from winning the bet, this contract was a godsend. It dramatically closed the gap between UME and the investors.
Winning the wager was no longer a pipe dream!
Just as Theo was about to embrace her, Glenn smoothly stepped in front of Evangeline, blocking Theo’s mad dash with one arm.
“This contract is on a tight schedule. You should go get the team started on preparations. Besides, Evangeline and I have a few things to discuss.”
Seeing Glenn, Theo snapped back to reality.
He shot Glenn a teasing glance.
Glenn was getting jealous. That’s why he didn’t want him touching her.
“Got it. I’ll get to work then.”
“You two talk.”
Theo left in high spirits, leaving them alone.
Evangeline assumed Glenn wanted to go over important details. This deal was
crucial, not just for the wager, but for UME’s international expansion.
Instead, Glenn walked to his desk and handed her a document.
Evangeline glanced at the cover page.
The words “Share Transfer Agreement” made her pause.
