Going up against the investors in a performance bet was, to put it bluntly, like an ant trying to shake a tree.
Glenn had also reviewed the financial report, his expression grave.
He had anticipated something like this. After Fawkes Enterprises got involved in the development and production of the robots, it had caused a small sensation abroad. The investors’ company had launched a series of promotional campaigns, attracting interest even from within the country, which was why their financial report was so much higher than the previous quarter.
Winning this bet was going to be even harder than he thought.
The man looked at Glenn, a faint, satisfied smile on his lips.
“Glenn, the board of directors thinks very highly of you. You haven’t been back with UME for long, and while you haven’t met the profit requirement, what you have achieved is far beyond anyone’s expectations. They are quite pleased.”
“As long as you hand over UME now, the company will still give you two percent of the shares. Theo can also remain in his director position, and UME can stay in the country, just as you wished.
“All that needs to change is the name. Everything else will be the same as before. You’re not really losing out, are you?”
Theo looked like he wanted to say something but held his tongue.
They both knew that the investors had been coveting UME for years.

“What if we just renege on the deal?” Theo whispered, so low that only he and Glenn could hear “UME has made a name förself in the country, and the factories are almost built. It’s only a matter of time before we scale up.”
“Even if you default now, the worst that can happen is losing a part of the foreign market. There’s still a huge market to tap into here.”
Theo sounded uncertain as he said it.
He knew it was unethical, but handing over the company he had built from scratch
was something no one would do willingly.
Glenn pushed him back into his chair and shook his head.
“A deal’s a deal.”
He looked up at the man and said
firmly “But the deadline isn’t hermet 2. Will discuss this again in a
yet. The results of the bet aren’t
month.”
The man was losing his patience.
He frowned. “A gap of nearly four hundred million dollars. Even with another month,
you can’t possibly win.”
“That’s not necessarily true.”
Just as the man finished speaking, the conference room door opened.
Evangeline walked in, glanced around, and then offered a polite smile to everyone present.
She was smiling, but her words were
cold and carried an undeniable
command. “I’m sorry, but the
company is about to sign a major deal that requires Mr. Carlisle presence. I’m afraid he won’t be able to entertain you right now. This meeting is over. Please see yourselves out.”
