Chapter 255
Chapter 255:
The merger between VantagePath Realty and Shaw Group had been postponed without warning, freezing several projects mid-stride. Her phone had been buzzing endlessly with calls from restless partners.
All day, she had kept her composure in front of Austin, not wanting him to sense her unease. Now, alone in the quiet, she could finally face the chaos.
Emails crowded her screen in an endless stream.
Brinley pressed her fingers to her aching temples and took a long sip of cold water.
The chill slid down her throat, clearing some of the fog in her mind.
She opened her chat with Corbin and typed: “Prepare the supplementary agreement for the Westgate Project and send it to the person in charge first thing tomorrow. I’ll meet him in the morning p>

Once the message was sent, she dove into Shaw Group’s internal directory, firing off instructions to several department heads, urging them to steady their teams and await further directives.
Halfway through her work, her phone buzzed suddenly.
Felix’s name glowed on the screen.
Brinley answered, her voice softening. “Still at the club p>
“Just about to leave,” Felix said easily. “By the way, I saw your message earlier. How is Austin holding up p>
“He’s stable now,” Brinley replied, drifting toward the window. Outside, the streetlamps near the hospital entrance glowed faintly. “And Felix… don’t get too wrapped up in racing. Dad’s health hasn’t been great lately. Spend some time with him p>
“Relax!” Felix replied. “I’ll cook for him tomorrow and make sure he’s in good spirits p>
Brinley let out a small laugh. “You? Cook? Just don’t burn the kitchen down p>
“Hey, don’t underestimate me!” Felix snorted. “I’ve picked up plenty from Vivien. You’ll see p>
When the call ended, a gentle warmth lingered in Brinley’s chest. Felix might seem careless on the surface, but there was more to him than he let on—especially when it came to family, whom he cared for with a quiet sense of duty.
Brinley lowered her gaze to the laptop screen, yet the heaviness pressing on her shoulders felt a little lighter.
By the time the last batch of emails was sent, the clock had crept past one in the morning.
Brinley finally closed the laptop and stretched, rubbing her sore shoulders. Rising, she made her way back to Austin’s hospital room to check on him.
But the moment she opened the door, she froze. A pair of dark, intent eyes met hers.
Austin stood in the doorway, still in his hospital gown, clearly having come straight from the ward.
The corridor lights spilled a gentle glow over his tall frame, and when his gaze settled on the scattered papers on the floor, a storm of emotion crossed his eyes.
“Why are you awake?” Brinley’s heart gave a startled jolt. Almost instinctively, she turned back, reaching to gather the papers.
