Chapter 270
“Got it,” Brinley said with a small nod, her voice soft.
Without wasting another second, Austin strode from the room with Miguel, his steps brisk and purposeful.
Once Austin had gone, Brinley wasted no time. She packed up her belongings and drove straight to VantagePath Realty.
The moment she stepped into the lobby, Corbin hurried over with a thick stack of documents, his face tight with urgency. “Brinley, thank goodness you’re back. We’ve had a pile of urgent files building up over the past few days, and several partners have been calling nonstop. I’ve managed to stall them so far.”
Brinley took the documents from him, already striding toward her office. “Which ones need my attention first?”
“The Westgate Project,” Corbin replied, keeping pace with her. “They’re pushing hard for the final proposal. And the east-side demolitions also need your attention. A few residents are refusing to cooperate, and you’ll need to personally step in.” He barely paused for breath before adding, “And Shaw Group called. They need you to confirm some details about the merger.”
Brinley shoved her office door open, dropped the stack onto her desk, and massaged her temples. “Fine. Bring me the Westgate Project files first. I’ll go through them and respond to the rest later.”
“Understood.” Corbin gave a quick nod and backed out of the office.
Drawing a steadying breath, Brinley slid into her chair and threw herself back into work.
She powered on her computer and pulled up every file tied to the Westgate Project, combing through them with meticulous focus.
Her brief absence had clearly left a mountain of unfinished tasks in her wake, and she wasted no time addressing the backlog.
Between flipping through documents and fielding a steady stream of phone calls, she sorted each issue with practiced efficiency.
By the time she glanced at the clock, the entire morning had slipped away.
After a quick lunch, she skipped any thought of rest and dove straight into the merger issues.
The turmoil inside Shaw Group, stirred by Lachlan’s covert scheming, was impossible to ignore. Several partnerships had already been snatched away, and key departments were left reeling after employees suddenly defected.
Brinley’s grip tightened on the list in her hand, her eyes narrowing with sharp focus.
Beyond those who had taken outside offers, a handful of staff who remained were clearly loyal to Lachlan. They had entrenched themselves over the years, forming a quiet but formidable faction within the company.
This merger between VantagePath Realty and Shaw Group felt like the perfect chance to cut out the dead weight and give the company a full reset.
While she considered the possibilities, a knock echoed at her office door.
“Come in,” Brinley called.
Corbin stepped in, leaning just far enough inside to be seen. “Brinley, Shaw Group just called. There’s a board meeting at two this afternoon, and they’re requesting your presence.”
Brinley inclined her head, her tone brisk. “Got it. I’ll get ready and head over soon.”
