Chapter 764

[ 562 words ]

Xander: “!!!”

Well, makes sense.

If it wasn’t something serious, she wouldn’t be storming off to punch Dan right now.

Xander: “Are you absolutely sure she wasn’t on her meds at the time?”

Yeah, her meds.

Shawn: “She was so mad, dude. She went after Dan like a tornado, then even went after Aira. You think someone that pissed remembers to take her meds?”

She was charging around like a linebacker-either punching someone or on her way to punch someone. Who’d stop to pop a pill in that state?

Xander thought about it and had to agree.

He glanced over at Kyle. “Drive to Black Gate.”

“What? Bro, you—”

“If we don’t go now and she loses the baby, then what? You know how short-fused she is.”

Just thinking about Yvonne’s temper gave Xander a headache.

If she really is pregnant and went after Dan like that, her mood alone could send the baby packing.

Shawn: “…”

Lose the baby, then what?

So what-does he want the kid to be born? Seriously, Yvonne doesn’t seem like the type to just settle down and play house.

Yvonne landed at Black Gate, and before she even left the airport, her phone buzzed.

It was Xander.

Seeing his name pop up brought a pang of guilt.

Sure, their marriage was a transaction, but they were legally married all the same.

She’d never wanted to get hitched, but she wasn’t the type to treat marriage like a joke either.

Even if it was a deal, she’d never planned to make Xander look like a fool. And now, well…

She answered, her voice way softer than when she talked to Dan. Guilt will do that. “Xander?”

Xander: “You went looking for Dan, didn’t you?”

Every time she surfaced these past three weeks, it was just to go after Dan.

She must really hate the guy now.

“Yeah, how’d you know?” Just mentioning Dan made Yvonne want to wring his neck.

Xander: “Don’t go. The baby’s mine.”

Yvonne: “!!!”

Wait, what?

This made zero sense. Clearly, Xander was just as bad as her at jumping to wild conclusions.

He figured she was going after Dan because of a baby.

“What are you even talking about?”

Her guilt vanished, replaced by pure annoyance.

Xander: “I said, the baby’s mine.”

“I’m not pregnant.”

“Who told you that nonsense? Was it Shawn? Tell him I’m coming for his mouth.”

That Shawn—he was just like Finley Yoder.

Useless at everything except running his mouth.

Shawn was right there with Xander and when he heard Yvonne threaten to “come for his mouth,” he

instinctively covered his

over

face.

This woman-she really didn’t have a single soft bone in her body.

Xander shot Shawn a look sharp enough to cut glass.

Shawn hugged his face tighter, completely innocent, but not about to risk it.

Xander rolled his eyes at Shawn’s pitiful act and looked away in disgust.

།

Yvonne, not getting a reply, added, “Maybe send him to hang with Finley for a while. Finley’s out in Death Valley-his mouth might be cleaner now, and maybe his brain’s clearer too.”

The second Shawn heard “Death Valley,” he silently cursed Yvonne: What a witch!

Only a real piece of work would come up with something like that.

Xander: “Sounds good to me.”

“Bro!”

Shawn practically yelped.

Death Valley was no place for

humans. He wasn’t going out

no

there,

Last he’d heard, Finley was

t to lose it.

Xander ignored his whining and just asked Yvonne, “If you’re not pregnant, then why are you after him?”

“He stole Susanna! Oh my God, Xander, listen to me this shameless jerk, he’s trying to set me up again!”

The very thought made Yvonne’s insides twist with rage.
