Chapter 771

[ 585 words ]

Yvonne was storming her way to the Black Gate. Sure, things got messy along the way, but she always managed to bounce back.

And when she did, it was bound to be fireworks between her and Dan-oil meets flame, every single time.

Meanwhile, Xander-knowing Yvonne was out for Dan’s blood-couldn’t just sit back and do nothing. He was worried Dan might pull something shady and hurt Yvonne, so he dropped everything and raced to the Black Gate too.

No surprise there…

Dan’s life was already a circus on a good day. Throw Xander into the middle of it, and chaos was guaranteed-no chance of keeping that lid on.

But as for the reason behind this whole mess?

The real troublemaker was currently sprawled out half-asleep on Hull’s bed, completely oblivious to the chaos she’d set off. It’d been nearly three weeks since Susanna left, and for Hull, every single day had been like tossing more yeast into the dough of his feelings.

Twenty days without her, and his feelings had risen like a batch of fresh-baked bread.

When they finally reunited, it was like tossing a match into a pile of dry tinder. So it’s no wonder…

After hours of, well, let’s just say “reconnecting,” Susanna was so worn out that even if Yvonne was off biting Dan’s head off at the Black Gate, she wouldn’t have noticed. She was out cold-completely unaware that half the people around her were losing their minds because of her.

Over on Palm Island, the air was thick with the smell of sizzling oysters on the grill. Silas, phone pressed to his ear, glanced toward the overwater bungalows before sidling up next to Hull.

“Boss, just got word-Yvonne’s gone off to the Black Gate.”

Hull: “What?”

He shot Silas a confused look. They were still in Nalog City, after all-Hull had just whisked Susanna off Yvonne’s island and brought her over to his own.

He knew stealing Susanna away would set Yvonne off. He’d been expecting fireworks—just not this particular show.

“She doesn’t know I was the one who took her?”

If Yvonne was storming the Black Gate now, it was definitely about Susanna. Silas gaped. “Wait, you took Susanna and didn’t tell Yvonne?”

Hull just snorted.

That said it all—of course he hadn’t told Yvonne. She’d kept Susanna hidden away so tightly, Hull had been tearing his hair out for weeks trying to find her.

“So… you basically kidnapped Susanna?” Barnaby piped up, unable to keep his mouth shut.

The look Hull and Silas shot him could’ve sliced bread.

Barnaby: “What? That’s what Mr. Quinn said-if you take something without telling the owner, it’s stealing. Even if you’re the boss, if you didn’t let Yvonne know, it’s still stealing, right?”

Silas threw up his hands, smacking Barnaby on the back of

“Do you hear yourself? That’s

not

stealing! Susanna’s family. Last timè, it was Yvonne who snatched

her!”

“Oh… got it,” Barnaby mumbled, sounding wounded.

In his eyes, it didn’t matter who did what-Yvonne or Hull, it was all the same sneaky business.

Silas had enough. Turning back to Hull, he muttered, “Boss, maybe you should at least explain things to Yvonne?”

“Explain what? There’s nothing to explain.” Hull grunted.

Silas stared. “Seriously? If you don’t, she’s gonna murder Dan.”

Barnaby chimed in, “Wouldn’t help anyway. Yvonne never listens. Remember that thing with Mr. Schultz? She didn’t believe a word, and Dan got the beating of his life.”

“Right now, as far as Yvonne’s concerned, Dan’s behind every bad thing that’s ever happened to her.”

Silas groaned. “But this time is different! It’s not even the same situation!”

But honestly, in this crowd, logic never seemed to matter much.
