Chapter 787

Susanna’s face twisted in pain, tears brimming in her eyes as she looked at Hull. “Don’t… don’t move! I need to get a doctor.”
Jeez, he was way too rough.
Right now, she wouldn’t let him touch her foot again for anything-it hurt like hell.
Hull just shrugged. “No need for a doctor. It’s already better.”
Susanna stared. “Huh?!”
Wait, what? Already better?
She wiggled her ankle, cautiously. And… seriously-it didn’t hurt anymore.
“Well, it doesn’t hurt now.”
There was still a bit of discomfort, but the sharp pain from before was gone.
Hull grunted, then added, “How about this: beg me, and I’ll let you skip training from now on, yeah?”
Even though Yvonne had taken Susanna with her for two weeks, Hull thought Susanna was still hopeless when it came to this stuff. She just wasn’t cut out for it.
Honestly, she’d grown up in a pampered, sheltered world-why force her to jump into the muddy mess that was Black Gate and totally change who she was?
Susanna gave him a wide-eyed, innocent look. “Um… Black Gate would love nothing more than to chew me and my mom up and spit us out right now.”
Hadn’t that already almost happened back at Hull’s place?
Thank God they’d been at Hull’s house-if they’d been anywhere else, those creepy twins would’ve torn her apart.
Speaking of those twins… just thinking about them made Susanna queasy. She had never seen anyone so stomach-turning.
She honestly didn’t get it—Derek and that homewrecker both had decent genes, so how did their kids turn out so ugly? She’d met DanSusanna, too—those dreamy eyes could charm the socks off anyone.
Hull just raised an eyebrow. “Black Gate? They’re nothing.”
Susanna’s eyes went wide.
Right. Compared to Mr. Quinn’s people, Black Gate really was nothing.
“So… you’re saying you’ll protect me from now on?” she mumbled.
Hull grabbed her hand and, with one swift motion, scooped her into his arms, a smirk tugging at his lips as he carried her toward the row of cozy cabins.
He didn’t answer, but his meaning was clear.
After all, he was already involved with Black Gate now…
When Silas and Barnaby saw Hull carrying Susanna back, they were both glued to their phones, watching parenting videos.
Just as Hull walked in, the video blared, “Stop! Don’t put the diaper on the baby like that you’ll hurt their back!”
Hull: “…”
Susanna: “…”

What on earth were these two up to?
Diapers? Were they planning to settle down and start a family or something?
Noticing Hull and Susanna, the two men fumbled to shut their phones off. Silas stood up with an awkward chuckle. “Hey, boss.”
Barnaby flashed a big, goofy

Hull glared, not amused. “What are you two doing?”

“Shut it,” Hull snapped, instantly getting a headache.
Barnaby: “Oh. Got it.”
Guess they weren’t getting babysitting duty.
Susanna shot Barnaby a look of pure disbelief. She would never understand how his mind worked.
Hull didn’t even bother responding—he just carried Susanna straight to their room.
Barnaby scratched his head and whispered to Silas, “Did I say something wrong again?”
Silas just sighed. “Who the heck starts teaching a baby to shoot from the day they’re born? Seriously, Barnaby?”
Barnaby shrugged. “Okay, maybe that’s a little early…”
Silas shook his head. “A little? No one’s signing up for that life, man.”
If it was that exhausting, who’d even want to be reborn?
Thanks to Barnaby’s comment, things were awkward between Susanna and Hull now. She just buried her face in Hull’s chest, avoiding his eyes.
