Chapter 875
[ 621 words ]
The moment Yvonne told Stella to pack her things, Ronald’s face turned as dark as burnt toast.
Always trying to snatch people away…
That little brat!
Ronald felt a headache coming on. Once he’d calmed Stella down, he headed straight for his study and called Yvonne.
Meanwhile, on Yvonne’s end…
She’d just finished ranting on the phone, but her anger wasn’t even close to cooling off. She was fuming.
When Ronald’s call came in, she didn’t answer. She just hung up on him.
Then he called again…
And then Xander called.
Xander picked up, a smirk in his voice. “What, I thought you’d given up on your sister for good?”
Right now, Xander was being downright bold, openly mocking Ronald.
Ronald snapped, “Put Yvonne on the phone.”
Xander replied, “She’s crying so hard she’s about to throw up. She doesn’t want to talk to you.”
That “crying so hard she’s about to throw up” wasn’t just for effect-he was trying to show just how upset Yvonne really was.
Ronald’s tone went ice cold. “Xander.”
Xander shot back, “Come on, Ronald, seriously? After everything she’s done for you all these years…”
“If you say one more word, I swear you’ll never set foot in Boston again!”
“Oh, so now you’re threatening me?” Xander was pissed. The nerve of this guy…
Just thinking about all those years Ronald had him running around the world like a stray dog made Xander’s blood boil.
No way he was going to hand the phone over to Yvonne now.
Ronald growled, “You sure you want to owe me one?”
Xander blustered, “Hey, I’m just saying-“
So he wanted to play tough? Fine. Let’s see how he likes it.
But then Xander remembered-Ronald never bluffed. If he said he’d banish
Xander from Boston, he’d do it. And that would be a real problem.
Finally, Xander thrust the phone at Yvonne. “Your brother’s on the phone!”
Yvonne snapped, “Get that away from me!”
“She refuses to talk…”
Ronald’s voice was practically a warning shot. “Xander!”
Just two words, but they rang with a threat that could freeze hell itself.
Xander threw up his hands. “Look, if she won’t answer, why are you threatening me?”
Couldn’t this guy be reasonable, just once?
Okay, maybe he’d screwed up with Stella-made a call he shouldn’t have split them up for almost three years. But hey, he’d found her now, hadn’t he?
“Alright, alright, you win, I surrender.”
With Ronald, Xander always felt like he was boxing with one hand tied behind his back.
He tried again, shoving the phone toward Yvonne. “Come on, please, just pick up. For the love of God, do it, okay?”
Yvonne just rolled her eyes at him.
Xander kept giving her pleading looks.
What could he do? He wasn’t in the wrong, but he wasn’t as tough as Ronald.
That’s just how it went-when you’re not the top dog, you take the crap.
Looking at Xander’s sorry face, Yvonne finally snatched the phone and pressed it
to her ear. “Alright, you’ve got three sentences. Make them count.”
Her tone was pure thunder.
Clearly, if Ronald couldn’t smooth things over in those three sentences, she’d write him off, stop calling him her brother and maybe steal his
Wife while she was at ft.
Ronald fell silent for a second, relief washing over him when Yvonne finally spoke.
She was mad. Really, truly mad this time.
But she had no idea-things were about to get even worse.
Ronald said, “Do you remember why Hull came to the Quinn family?”
Yvonne went quiet.
Hull?
Someone as formidable as Hull, coming to the Quinn family-of course she remembered.
Hull…
Even before he teamed up with Ronald, Hull’s influence had been skyrocketing.
After joining Ronald, it just kept
growing unstoppable, like a freight
train. But he’d always kept a low
profile, like he was gathering
strength for something big.
Ronald’s question suddenly brought back memories Yvonne hadn’t dusted off in
years.
She’d nearly forgotten what brought Hull to Ronald’s side in the first place.
But now, as Ronald asked, it all came back.
