Chapter 1107
[ 591 words ]
When Susanna Tucker and Hull returned from dinner, Barnaby and Silas were already back. As soon as they walked in, they overheard the two men gossiping.
“You should have seen it. Lacey Tucker was an absolute badass. She had such a sharp tongue that Derek Murray couldn’t even defend himself!”
“With this whole fertility investigation today, I bet even if Derek is perfectly fine, she’ll find a way to make sure something is wrong with him.”
Barnaby’s analysis of Lacey was spot on. In his eyes, Lacey would do absolutely anything to shake Derek off for good.
“How could she make something wrong with him?” Silas asked. “Unless she literally chops it off?”
“Don’t put it past her. If she gets pushed too far, she might just do it!” Barnaby nodded seriously.
A wry smile tugged at Susanna’s lips as she glanced at Hull. This Barnaby!
“But she wouldn’t even need to chop it off,” Barnaby continued. “Everyone on the medical team today works for Lacey.”
“Would Derek actually believe them?” Silas asked.
“Even if he’s fine, he’ll end up believing he has a problem.”
“Why?” Silas looked confused by Barnaby’s absolute certainty.
“If enough people tell you that you have a problem, you start to believe it,” Barnaby explained. “Eventually, he’ll convince himself it’s the truth!”
Silas remained silent.
“Besides, Derek’s issue isn’t just a rumor. Adelle’s three kids are living proof,” Barnaby said. “He might say he’s confident in his manhood, but deep down, he’s definitely already doubting himself!”
None of those three kids were his. Any normal man would question his own capabilities after that.
“He definitely had his suspicions, but he just didn’t want to accept it,” Silas agreed. “At his age, who would want to believe that?”
“The DNA test he has is the only thing keeping him going. It proves that at least one kid is his, which proves his equipment works.”
That explained why Derek had never gone to get his fertility checked. What man could accept finding out he was entirely barren at his age?
Barnaby was about to say more when Silas suddenly spotted Susanna and Hull standing there. He quickly tugged on Barnaby’s sleeve to shut him up.
But Barnaby was completely
oblivious, his mouth running a mile a minute. “Hey, think about it. If the DNA test says it’s true, even if he finds out he’s infertile, would he believe that Susanna isn’t his daughter? That’s a DNA test! It’s the most authoritative thing in people’s minds. He wouldn’t doubt it easily. Would he have to investigate if hë has a secret twin brother or something? How would he even do that? Dig his mother out of the grave and ask her?”
Silas was utterly speechless. This idiot!
Susanna and Hull stared at him in dead silence.
“Ouch, why are you grabbing me?” Barnaby complained. “I’m just telling the truth! feel like even if they prove he’s infertile today, Derek still won’t believe the kid isn’t his. And there’s more than just Susannaf if he’s stente, does that mean Dan Murray isn’t his either? The poor old guy. And you wanted me to go comfort him? How do you even comfort someone after that?”
It was completely beyond comforting.
“You actually wanted to comfort him?” Susanna asked dryly.
Yesterday, they had comforted him straight into a stroke. Did Barnaby really think his words were comforting?
Barnaby was fully in the zone until
Susanna’s sudden voice scared the
living daylights out of him. He
el’
jumped “Oh, Susanna! Boss! Wher
did you guys get back?”
Susanna didn’t know what to say.
Hull shot him a freezing glare.
Silas immediately grabbed Barnaby. “We haven’t had dinner yet! Boss, we’re going
to grab some food now.”
