Chapter 297 Execution_Part 2

Laila balled her fists, hating and regretting every moment she hadn’t punched Javier’s stupid face while they were growing up in Silver.

Yeah, she had once been a nice little pup.

And that kindness had gotten her nothing except bullies and being a target to every girl in the pack.

So she had decided to become the bully instead.

“You are going to regret this.”

“Go on, then. Make me regret it.” Javier smirked. “Everyone in Silver is curious about how you contacted a sea creature, and they’re all watching this to hear the truth. Nobody is supporting either of you. So if you know what’s best for yourselves, tell me the truth or shut up and get electrocuted in peace.”

He took the candy from his man, unwrapped it, and handed it to a guard.

“Put it in her mouth so it can shut up that hole on her face.”

The guard obeyed and forced the candy into Laila’s mouth.

Javier smiled. “Now we’re even.”

Laila had been rendered speechless after hearing that everyone was supporting her execution. She, whom everyone had claimed to like and look up to. She, whom they had always said they would die for.

Yet now, not a single one of them was speaking up for her.

And as much as she hated to think about the wolfless woman’s words, they came back to her at that moment.

’One day everything might backfire on you, and you’ll realize you have no one who genuinely cares about you, and trust me, it’s one of the worst feelings a person can ever experience.’

For the first time since arriving in this nightmare, Laila found herself wondering if Viola had been right.

Tears stung her eyes, and she spat the candy out into the pool of water that crackled with electricity across its surface.

She turned to look at Viola, who appeared calm and was staring at the water as if deep in thoughts and barely aware of what was happening around her, and said to her,

“I guess it’s time I accept that you are stronger than I am despite not having a wolf. I have never seen anyone look this calm in the face of torture.”

She mused, and Viola finally looked away from the water and toward the she-wolf standing next to her before offering a small smile.

“I am terrified, Miss Serrano. You can say I am simply good at hiding my fears because I know showing them won’t change anything,” Viola replied honestly to the she-wolf, who was silently tearing up, and her eyes zeroed on the tears. Was she that afraid?

“Well, if I am dying here, I want you to know that I still hate you, and I want to wring your neck so badly,” Laila said with a glare.

Viola nodded, finding the entire conversation absurd considering they were standing before a pool of electrified water that would likely execute them while thousands of Silver pack members watched from their screens.

“Don’t worry. You won’t die here. You haven’t done anything.”

Laila looked at her in confusion as Viola turned her gaze toward Javier and spoke loudly enough for everyone present, and everyone watching, to hear.

“Miss Serrano is innocent. Let her go. I was the last person to hold Ember’s wrist before she collapsed. In fact, Ember injured Miss Serrano, and there is footage in Zoe’s fashion house that can prove it.”

Viola hadn’t wanted to confess this, but it seemed she had no choice if she wanted to avoid dragging another person down with her. It was beginning to look as though there was no way anyone could save her from this mess. The people who cared about her were powerless to help now, and the one person who might have been able to stop all of this was away and unaware of what was happening.

As much as she missed Sebastian in that moment, she knew wishing for him to appear wouldn’t change her situation.

And the reason she was saying this here, in front of the cameras, was because if the entirety of Silver was truly watching, they would not allow Javier to execute Laila after a public confession had been made declaring her innocence.

Javier cursed under his breath.

“This fucking wolfless. Always interfering in things like some goody-two-shoes,” he muttered under his breath.

But then again, he had no real interest in Laila.

His interest had always been focused on Viola.

Thus, he didn’t even bother telling his men to investigate the claim before ordering them to release Laila.

Laila, who was suddenly being untied, couldn’t believe that her rival had just pulled her away from the edge of being electrocuted. She stared at Viola as though she were seeing her for the first time while the guards shoved her aside and away from the pool.

For a moment, she didn’t know what to think and could only stare. But then Viola gave her a small nod, as if silently telling her to leave while she still could, before turning her attention back to Javier, who was grinning from ear to ear.

“We’ve gotten somewhere with the confession. Now this leaves the two of us again, Viola.” Javier smiled. “It’s good that you confessed, but that’s not the full confession I wanted. I need to know how you did that and how you managed to get silver into her system at the same time.”

Viola’s eyes narrowed.

Just because she had admitted to holding Ember’s wrist didn’t mean she would confess to the silver substance found inside her.

“What I confessed to was holding her wrist, not putting silver into her system.”

Javier’s brow lifted, and he let out a long sigh.

“You are making this difficult.”

He leaned back in his chair and drummed his fingers against the armrest.

“I was hoping you would make this easier on yourself.”

Viola said nothing. She wasn’t about to confess to something she hadn’t done.

Javier stared at her for a few moments before his expression hardened.

“Throw her in.”

The words echoed through the room, and for the first time since entering it, Viola felt her inside tightened with dread that made cold sweat break off her forehead.
