Scarlett’s gaze was steady as she met them head–on. “By that logic, because I was born a Lane. no matter what I achieve, I must first prove myself innocent?
So does that mean every student from a well–off family should be forced to provide ten times the evidence before being acknowledged as legitimate?”
Her voice rose, carrying strength that filled the room.
“I didn’t choose my birth. But from the first day I entered this school, I was in the dissection room at six every morning, memorizing specimens. I didn’t leave the lab until ten at night. Weekends, I lived in the library, combing through papers. Was that bought with family favors too?”
Her eyes flashed as she suddenly turned on Millic.
“Millie, you say my project was no different from the runner–up’s. Have you forgotten last year. before finals, when you begged me in tears to explain an experiment to you? “Professor, if you fear my data has problems, I can request the experimental center to pull every raw record and monitoring tape right now. We can check them line by line, on the spol. But let’s be clear: questioning is one thing, slander is another. The letters accused me of plagiarism. Yet my references are all properly cited. The plagiarism rate is 3.7%– that’s in the university system for anyone to see.”
She drew in a breath, her eyes sweeping across the hall. “If whispers and shadows are enough to ruin years of work, then the academic integrity of Trenwyn Medical University is worth less than nothing.”
Her words rang like a bell, silencing the room.
Some people even covered their faces, ashamed.
Because if Scarlett truly had relied on her family, would she be standing here so calmly? The Lane family could easily have sent her abroad, placed her in a top university without all this scrutiny. Yet she chose to study here, to defend her work in front of them.
Heads lowered, thoughts shifting.
Others realized with a jolt they had been manipulated.
Millie’s face twisted, her confidence crumbling. She had thought Scarlett would falter, that one crack would be enough to suspend her graduation. Instead, Scarlett was cutting every accusation apart with ease.
Just then, commotion stirred at the back door of the lecture hall.
An elderly professor with white hair and a cane entered, followed by several suited officials. One wore a badge reading “Ministry of Education Inspector.” Behind them, the school’s senior leadership trailed.
“What nonsense is this!”
The voice was firm, sharp. It was President Wayne, freshly returned from Jandale.
He strode to the lectern, his face stern.
“I heard whispers of this even in Jandale. I came back overnight to see who was pulling tricks behind the curtain!”
His gaze softened as it fell on Scarlett, regret in his eyes. “Scarlett, I’m sorry you’ve had to

When she didn’t show blame, he exhaled, then turned to the inspectors.
