“Thanks, Scarlett. And thank you, Mr. Fletcher, Mr. Damian.” Colt’s voice carried sincere gratitude.
As they headed out, passing by Thomas, Jasper slowed his steps. He turned his head slightly, his voice calm yet cutting with authority.
“Your attitude toward her just now, and the way you pushed your colleague down while he was drowning–I think your director would be very interested.”
Thomas’s face drained of color, his knees nearly buckling.
“Mr… Mr. Fletcher, I was wrong! I didn’t recognize who you were! Please, show mercy…”
Panic seized him completely.
Jasper ignored him and walked out.
Scarlett glanced back. Thomas was slumped on the ground, pale and broken, none of his earlier arrogance left. The long–held frustration inside her finally eased.
Outside the police bureau, the sunlight was bright.
Jack laughed. “Well, this is perfect–everyone’s happy. Jasper, you’re something else. I really admire you.”
Jasper didn’t reply. Instead, his gaze drifted to Scarlett. The gloom in her eyes had lifted, replaced by relief and gratitude. His look softened.
Her eyes sparkled, as though filled with starlight. A faint curve tugged at the corner of his lips.
His
gaze burned too warmly, and Scarlett’s heartbeat quickened again. Her cheeks flushed. She hurriedly looked away.
“Um… it’s getting late. Let me treat you both to dinner?”
“Sure,” Jack answered immediately. “I know a great new place…”
Jasper nodded as well, his eyes lingering on the pink of Scarlett’s cheek.
The sunlight wrapped around them, warm and brilliant.
The following days brought only good news from Colt’s side.

With the precise intel Jasper provided, Interpol struck swiftly and captured hacker Ricardo in Southeast Asia.
Meanwhile, domestic task forces followed the trail and dismantled multiple bases of the cross- border scam group, arresting over thirty suspects and freezing nearly thirty million in assets.
When the victims heard, they were so moved they sent banners of thanks to the police. The tide of negative press vanished overnight.
The bureau leadership was thrilled with the results. They held a commendation ceremony, and Colt, as case leader, not only had his position restored but was promoted to deputy captain of the criminal investigations unit.
Thomas, on the other hand, wasn’t so lucky.
The director was furious. Coupled with his long history of abusing his seniority to bully newcomers, others seized the chance to report him for past misconduct.
Ultimately, Thomas was stripped of his position for poor attitude, abuse of authority, and dereliction of duty. His career was over.
Scarlett heard the news while having dinner with Jack and Jasper.
Jack chuckled. “See? What goes around comes around. Thomas got exactly what he deserved. Just thinking about his smug face makes me sick.”
Scarlett found it satisfying too. “True. But we owe it to Mr. Fletcher.”
Jack smirked, waggling his brows.
“Oh yes, all thanks to Mr. Fletcher.”
Jasper: “…”

He lifted his glass, the movement of his throat as he swallowed catching Scarlett’s eye–so distracting she had to look away, her pulse racing. She ducked her head, focusing on her food
to hide her unease.
Colt couldn’t attend the meal–he was buried in follow–up work–but he called, brimming with excitement and gratitude, insisting he would treat Jasper properly once things settled.
After hanging up, Scarlett felt content too. Her friend was safe, the villains punished- everything was moving toward the light.
When dinner was over, Jasper drove Scarlett home.

Scarlett gazed at the passing night outside the window, then asked suddenly, “Mr. Fletcher, I used to think you were cold and distant. When did you become so approachable, even helpful?”
Jasper’s hand on the wheel paused. He glanced at her. “You want to know?”
“Yes.” She nodded. Truthfully, her throat felt dry from the charged air between them. She was only trying to break the tension.
Jasper was silent for a few seconds.
“Always been this way.”
The answer said everything and nothing. The atmosphere stayed heavy.
His gaze lingered on her flushed face, deepening.
He leaned closer. The distance between them shrank in an instant. The crisp scent of cedar on him filled her nose, making her heart skip a beat.
“What I mean,” his voice low, steady, laced with a pull that was hard to resist, “is that you’re the one worth being approachable and helpful for.”
Scarlett’s mind went blank with a jolt.
His eyes were too serious, too intense, like they might draw her in.
She could see the sweep of his lashes, the reflection of herself in his dark
gaze.
“You… you…” she stammered, heat flooding her face.
