Then she turned to Franklin, who was sitting beside her and said, beaming, “Mom said I can go see her!” Franklin tamed a page of his book before glancing up. “Got it. Want me to drive you?” “No need!” Isabella dashed upstairs with Aunt Sara to pack. A few minutes later, she ran down the stairs with a small backpack on. As she rushed past Franklin, still calmly reading in the living room, she didn’t even pause to look at him.
Waving as she sprinted out the door, she called, “Dad, I’m heading out now!” Franklin finally tilted his head and looked toward her small figure disappearing down the steps. “Mm. Be careful on the road-and good night.” “Good night!”
