Now, because of those few lost hours, they’d have to wait at least another month. Still, what was done was done. Complaining wouldn’t change anything. Old Mrs. Green sighed. “It’s been a while since Franklin came by for dinner. We don’t know how busy he’ll be next, but if he’s free, Julia, make sure you invite him over. We still owe him a proper thank-you for all his help before.” Julia listened quietly and gave a mild “Okay.” Meanwhile, after work, Maggie went out for dinner with Johnny, Nolan, and Yulia. —- When they finished eating, she accompanied Yulia for some late-night shopping.
By the time she got home, it was past nine. She noticed several unread messages from Isabella. The girl had texted that Franklin had brought gifts for both of them and that she’d bring Maggie’s over in a few days. Maggie looked at the messages for a long moment before replying with a single word: “Okay.” After sending the reply, she hesitated, checked her chats, and saw that Franklin hadn’t sent her anything. She sat there in silence for a while, then put her phone down and went to take a shower. The next morning, Maggie kept an eye on her phone from the moment she woke up.
Even as she got to the office and started work, there was still no message from Franklin, no sign that he wanted to —- go to the Civil Center to finalize the divorce. Franklin sat through the entire session, listening quietly without saying much. His presence wasn’t even required for the discussion, it was Clear this meeting had nothing to do with him. Johnny clenched his jaw and leaned closer to whisper under his breath, “You still think he’s too busy? Looks to me like he’s got plenty of free time.”
