Evelyn couldn’t quite bring herself to shake off Charles’ hand, nor was she truly interested in making their relationship public alongside Patrick in front of the media frenzy.

“I’ll drive you home,” Brooks offered gently, seeing how much she was struggling.
“Okay.” Evelyn accepted Brooks’ offer without hesitation. She really wasn’t in any state to drive.
