Chapter 2
As the second round of fireworks soared into the sky, exploding in a burst of dazzling colors, Charles and Dahlia simultaneously bent down to kiss Sandy. One on the left and one on the right, their affectionate kisses landed on Sandy’s cheeks.
The moment was frozen in time.
“Woah. Mr. Jenkins really dotes on his daughter.”
“Well, I heard Dahlia is the love of his life.”
Envious voices filled the air.
Evelyn’s eyes turned bloodshot as she tightly wrapped her daughter’s urn in her down jacket. Her heart was twisting in pain.
She covered the front of the urn with her hand, whispering softly, “Charlie, don’t look!”
She didn’t want her daughter to be sad.

It was ten o’clock at night when Evelyn returned to Oakwood Manor, the villa she shared with Charles.
Dragging her heavy steps upstairs, she entered her daughter’s room. After tidying up her daughter’s belongings, she sat on the little bed holding her daughter’s urn all night long. The next morning, Evelyn came downstairs, bumping into a tall and handsome figure.
It was Charles.
He didn’t look at her, his expression as cold as ever. He did not say much but asked succinctly, “Where’s Charlie?”
Evelyn let out a mocking, cold laugh. It had been three days since their daughter died, and he only just remembered Charlie.
Charles frowned slightly, displeased at Evelyn’s glare. Was she still angry about him missing out on Charlie’s birthday the day before yesterday?
Charles didn’t argue with her. Suppressing his displeasure, he said in a deep voice, “I came to take Charlie to the amusement park.”
Hearing ‘amusement park,’ Evelyn’s heart twisted in pain. She could never forget the scene she saw when she rushed into the amusement park after the staff called her.
Her daughter had fainted in a pool of her vomited blood, and Charles was nowhere to be seen.
Charlie had said over the phone in the morning. “Mommy, Daddy arrived on time. I’m having a lot of fun with him. Don’t worry,” At that moment, Evelyn realized they were actually lies.
Her daughter lied to her for the first time, just so she could spend time alone with her dad. Charlie believed he wouldn’t lie to her and would definitely come.
Charlie stood foolishly waiting in the cold wind from morning till night.
Evelyn’s eyes gradually became bloodshot as she glared at Charles with rage. Her voice was cold as ice. “She’s dead! Where are you going to take her? To the underworld?” “Evelyn!!” Charles was furious.
Wasn’t it just one missed appointment? Why would she curse her own daughter to death over such a trivial matter?
She was Charlie’s mother. How could she say such a thing?
Charles stared at Evelyn as if she were a madwoman!
“You are being unreasonable!”
Charles couldn’t bother with the raging Evelyn. He gave her a cold look as a warning not to go mad. Then he walked upstairs, intending to call Charlie himself.
He walked just a few steps away when his phone rang.
The special ringtone made him stop immediately, and he pulled out his phone from his pocket.
He answered in a second. The sweet, coquettish voice of a little girl filled the quiet living room. “Daddy, I miss you. Will you come and spend time with me?”
