Chapter 4
Evelyn’s daughter had finally found a matching kidney donor, but just before the surgery, it was taken away by someone else. Her daughter died on the operating table. Such a sweet and well-behaved little girl was gone just like that. No mother could accept that.-
Unfortunately, he truly didn’t know the details. All he had heard was that the daughter of some VIP client also happened to be a match., which was something he couldn’t disclose. Evelyn couldn’t get an answer. Her heart was heavy as she left Dr. Schules’ office.
Walking past the hospital wing downstairs, a small figure suddenly charged at her like a cannonball.
Evelyn instinctively reached out to help. Before she could touch the child, her hand was forcefully slapped away, and a familiar female voice rang in her ear, “Don’t hurt my daughter!” It was Dahlia.
Evelyn withdrew her hand, her expression solemn as she looked over.
Dahlia was standing defensively, holding Sandy close as if facing a great enemy. She stared at Evelyn while desperately trying to restrain herself. “Evelyn, I know you’re angry, but don’t take your anger out on my girl. Sandy is just a child. ” It’s the same old act.
A slight smirk of scorn curled Evelyn’s lips; she didn’t need to look around to know Charles must be nearby.
Sure enough. As soon as Dahlia finished speaking, an annoyed reprimand came from behind her. “Evelyn, what are you doing now?”
Charles strode over quickly, positioning himself protectively in front of Dahlia and Sandy. He gazed towards Evelyn with eyes filled with a cold warning.
Charles’ boundless protection for Dahlia and her daughter inevitably caused a pang of pain in Evelyn’s heart. She clenched her fists.
Evelyn didn’t want to argue with him now for Charlie’s sake, and turned to leave. Suddenly, she saw Sandy clutching Charles’ leg, looking up with pitiful eyes. “Daddy, is Ms. Evelyn mad at me because you didn’t spend my birthday with Charlie? Is Charlie upset? It’s all my fault…”
Evelyn’s expression turned icy. This scene reminded her of the first time Charlie met Sandy.
Sandy had fallen into the swimming pool, and Charles had arrived just in time to save her.
At that time, Sandy was crying and apologizing to Charlie, “Did I do something to upset you, Charlie? I’m sorry, it’s all my fault.”
While apologizing, she insinuated that Charlie had intentionally pushed her.
Charles was furious. He didn’t listen to Charlie’s explanation at all and scolded her harshly. As punishment, he made her stand outside alone and reflect on her actions. Charlie stood outside for hours, and Charles ignored her completely. Charlie fell ill the day she returned home, running a high fever for three days and nights.
When Charlie woke up, she cried convulsively. “Mommy, please believe me. I didn’t push Sandy. Sandy pushed me and fell into the pool by herself. It wasn’t me, really.” “Baby, don’t cry. I believe you!”
Evelyn held her daughter and comforted her repeatedly, but Charlie still couldn’t stop crying. “Why doesn’t Daddy believe me?”
What hurt Charlie most was that her beloved father didn’t believe her.
The memory made Evelyn’s gaze towards Sandy grow even colder. Frightened, Sandy burst into tears.
Dahlia was extremely distressed and rushed in front of Evelyn to block her gaze. “Evelyn, I told you if you’re angry, take it out on me…”
“Slap!”
“Slap!”
“Slap!”
Evelyn did just that. She raised her hand and delivered several heavy slaps across Dahlia’s face.
